Any thoughts why the field was named Blood Field?

Probably to do with a battle from the time of the Viking incursions back then. The historical piece at the beginning of each chapter certainly seems to be pointing in that direction.

>3 Andrew-theQM: Agree those openings point to a Viking battle.

I'm in the middle of an Outlander marathon so I immediately thought vicious, bloody battle between the townspeople and the Scots, I mean Vikings.

I assumed it was the scene of a bloody battle (hence the stones being stained with blood as well) during the Viking raids.

>4 Olivermagnus: LOL...I'm saving up a couple of seasons of Outlander but I'm current on Vikings (history channel) and The Last Horseman so I'm in a Viking frame of mind...

I agree that it must be a Viking bloody battle.

Probably for a bloody battle. Those Vikings were famous for those. Could also be for something in the soil that makes the rocks red.
