Why do you think the robbers’ gun was empty? Is this the same group as shot Wexer?

I'd say it was the same group. Why an empty gun? Perhaps they'd decided against loaded ones after the shooting incident with Wexer. Robbery is one thing, risking killing someone during an armed robbery is something else altogether.

I don't know why the gun would be unloaded but lucky for Dave it was. I think it must be the same group.

Why carry around an unloaded gun? >2 Sergeirocks: is right. There is a big difference between robbery and murder. an unloaded gun can still get you killed though.

The robbers do not want another incident like Wexer's.

I wondered if perhaps Proudy had been with the group on Wexer's farm and he had the loaded gun while the regular group only carried unloaded guns - just so they wouldn't have an incident like with Wexer
