Any thoughts on the ending to the historical story? Was it a surprise? Did this help you work out the ending to the modern story?

not too surprising since we already knew that Olaf likely had his head bashed in. It definitely connected the dots in the modern story and pointed to the actual culprit and the reason for the crime

The biggest surprise in the ancient story was how readily Olaf was accepted by this woman when the Vikings were the scourge of Europe at that time. I thought someone in the village wasn't as happy with his presence as the mother was. I was surprised that the lady her son was with was the one that bashed his head in. From the way she was described the ax weighted more than she did.

I thought it really paralleled the modern story and this is the point where I realized the killer was Gwen.

Yes the story did make me think the killer was Gwen.

It did come as a surprise that the nun wielded the axe for the killing blow.
I'm not sure I put the two crimes together to come up with the right answer, but I suppose I should have done.
