What was your final rating? Why?

3.5 - while mostly interesting, I found the story slow and many of the characters annoying (Heffernan, Pam, Rachel). Even Wesley isn't a very exciting character.

I really enjoyed this one, so many different layers tonit. Not checked my ratings for the others yet but feels my favourite so far. 4.5 stars.

I ended with a 4.5. >2 bhabeck: is right...the story was slow but with all the characters and side stories that wasn't entirely a bad thing. I believe that Wesley will become more of a major...or at least a more active, character in future books.

I'm also ending at 4.5. I liked the various stories, even the addition of Odin and making him a tax inspector. I hope they don't continue to have Rachel moon over Wesley. It's my favorite.

>5 Olivermagnus: I certainly second that about Rachel and Wesley.

I'm ending with a 4. Could have been a 4.5 but not worth giving it a 5 for some reviews so decided on 4.

>7 EadieB: What did you think stopped it from being a 4.5?

>2 bhabeck: >4 Carol420: I think most UK crime fiction does have a slower pace of development of plots.

>9 Andrew-theQM: I think you are right. I know that NOONE anywhere does mystery/suspense movies like you British. I have watched...I believe...every serial mystery series that BBC has produced.

>10 Carol420: I love the Roy Grace and Inspector Banks Books but both have steady theme development and build to an exciting crescendo (especially Roy Grace). Just a different way of writing crime fiction. I do like the fast actioned ones but still these two series would figure as favourites and just different to US Crime Fiction which tends to be faster paced, and more gritty.

I finished on 4.5, simply because I found it an enjoyable read.

>8 Andrew-theQM: I think some of Ellis' writing is hard to read. I don't think the prose flows easily which sometimes makes a very slow read for me.

>13 EadieB: I think I can see what you are saying, this might be what stops me awarding her a 5 - that flow of the writing.

>14 Andrew-theQM: Seems to be the wording sometimes just doesn't flow too well.
