December 2019 TIOLI challenge: Horns!

I've wanted to read this book for a long time, Now's my chance! :D

I do know not all cows have horns :-)

I could move this book to other challenges, so no problem if you don't see a horn where I see it.

What confused me at first were that those white pointy things were pointing forward and not upward. I did find pictures of cows with just those kind of horns.

"In cows, the state of having horns is not related to gender but to the presence or absence of a particular gene. The hornless gene, also known as the polled gene, affects males as well as females. The hornless gene is dominant over the gene for horns, and many horned breeds also have hornless strains."

Most cows over here, if they have horns, have the point forward horns, like the picture.

You had longhorns or similair breeds in mind?

Holstein is a common breed of cattle here in Maryland where I live. Here's one, a bull, with horns:

I really did misplace my other "horn" book so I read this one quickly this afternoon. I'll probably save it for my granddaughter who is now not quite two years old.

I found my other "horn" book. Too late! I have to move on with other TIOLI challenges this month! :D
