I was actually doing something similar to this for myself last year. I was working in a bookstore and a customer impressed with my book knowledge said "Wow! You must read a lot! Do you think you read more than three books a year?" And I thought, do people think that's a lot? So decided to keep track of what I read, but I lost my way about halfway through the year (during Harry Potter time). Maybe I'll do it better this time!

Wow, if someone said something like that to me, I wouldn't know what to say! Because I think everything that would pop in my mind would be kind of insulting, lol.
Actually, I would probably tell them I have been known to read more than 3 in a week at times.
So, how many were you up to when you stopped keeping track?

more than three books a year? lol
It's more like 3 books a month for me. :D
I'm always amazed at how there are so little people out there who read a lot.
I started keeping track of my books here on librarything. But maybe I should keep track of the books I've read/will be reading this year.
Since January I've read about 15 maybe.

At least three books a month! And often multiples going at the same time. I tend to keep a book at work for lunchtime reading and a book at home for evenings and weekends. I also try to keep a book in my glove compartment, just in case I end up having to wait for someone somewhere, I have a book. Short stories or essays work well for this, because you could go weeks or months between readings and could be harder to remember what was happening.

I like to have a backup book, too. I usually just bring whatever I am reading with me everywhere, with a second book if I am near the end of the first one. I like to read whenever I have the chance!

On the topic of three books a year I have an old story. When I was in eighth grade, age 13, the English teacher asked students to hold up their hand if they had read ten books in their lifetime. Most of the students held up their hand. She continued going higher and finally got to 75. I thought. I had started reading outside of school when I was eight and I remember reading a book in one day that year. I always had some book in progress since that time. I thought about that and 75 books in 5 years was only 15 a year and I knew that I had read that many. So I stuck up my hand and was the only one. My friends called me a liar and said no one could read that much with more of the same from a lot of other kids in the class.
People who don't read don't understand that some other people do read. It just isn't on their radar. People who do read are all too aware that there are people who don't read. Sometimes I feel like a book geek. That's one of the things I love about LT. Here I am not alone.

Great story wildbill! Alas it is all too true. The other thing that always blew me away when working at the bookstore was when guys would hit on me while I was working there during which they would say they didn't read! This was usually during Christmas. "This is the only time of year I buy books, they're only as gifts, I don't read." Do they really think this is going to impress the girl who works at the bookstore?! Silly silly silly!

I'm always so stunned when someone says they don't read or can't believe I read for fun.
I probably read around 50 books each year, give or take a few. I'd read more but, gees, kids take up a lot of time.

Hi, bib! I can't believe someone would ever ask if you only read more than three books in an entire year. That's absolutely insane. Glad you didn't tell her no! We enjoy your company on LT very much! :)

Hi Bib! You have some good books here. It looks like you read more than three a year :) How did The Boleyn Inheritance turn out. Did you like it?
17biblioholic29
Hey compski! Thanks for stopping by!
I did like The Boleyn Inheritance quite a bit actually. One of the things I particularly enjoyed was that the chapters were much shorter than the other books in the series. This was handy since it was my lunch time reading. I also liked getting 3 different perspectives, the narrator kept changing, which I really enjoy, I think it keeps things fresh and interesting. We of course see many of the characters we saw in other books and yet, as they are seen from a new perspective, we see them with different eyes. I would certainly recommend giving it a try.

Hi biblioholic29, just joined the 50-book challenge today.
I saw that you just finished The Last Cato. How did you like this book? I enjoyed it very much, mainly because I like historical mysteries. Have you read Labyrinth by Kate Moss? That too is another favorite of mine.
Happy "reading" holidays to you!

Hello to you libreria! I really enjoyed The Last Cato, while I originally worried that it might be too Dan Brown, I was happy to find that it reminded me far more of my favorite mystery series by Elizabeth Peters, especially the end! I'm looking forward to reading more Asensi. I'll have to keep a look out for Labyrinth as well!
