Hi folks. Welcome to the Kindley Book Club.
I'm hoping that you new folks will post messages here and let us know who you are. I've checked profiles but most of them do not give info about you all, so please let us know who you are, how you happened to select this site, and what you are reading. Are you Kindlers? Do you have your Kindles yet? Don't panic if you have not rec'd your Kindles yet. They'll show up eventually and you'll love them.
So, pardon the pun, but please keep us posted.

I agree and was noticing the same the other day. we can't welcome you to the club if we don't know who you are! How did you find out about our little Kindley Book Club? And please, tell us about yourself!
Hope to hear from all of our new Kindlers! It's a really great device!
We are a casual group and you can read what you want. You will also probably find many people here that share your taste in books and then you can give each other recommendations! If you're looking for someone to read and discuss the same book as you, I'm sure you'll get some takers, but all you have to do is post it!
Blessings,

Hi all! I'm new to this site, actually, and ordered my kindle on the 28th of February and I'M STILL WAITING! A nice person on the Amazon Kindle discussion group directed me here after I expressed an interest in a reading/Kindling website. Looks pretty cool! I've been looking for a good book club/group read/book worm site for some time but haven't really been able to find one. I just filled in my profile and added most of the books I can remember reading to my library and I'm good to go! It's good to be here! I am a little overwhelmed right now, though, with all the different users here and all that the site has to offer!

Hi tracey, welcome to the group - ok to be overwhelmed right now. just hang in there and things will fall into place. I know, waiting for the kindle is hard, but worth it!!!! I don't know the current wait time, but the last time i heard it was a month or less. keep checking the forums/discussions as a way to pass the time - as well as this group! We are about the kindle, books and personal friendship/connection; whatever one chooses. best, richard

Hello Tracy,
Welcome, there are a ton of things to do at Library Thing and it can seem overwhelming. I just try and explore a little more every week and I keep finding interesting conversations and of course new books to add to my TBR list. After a while you will find the things that interest you and it won't seem so vast. :)
Anyway just have fun.
Bill

I read about this site today on the Amazon Kindle forum, so came over to join. :c) I just ordered my Kindle on 3/5, so it will be a month or so before I get it in my hot little hands!
One thing I am really looking forward to is being able to have my "comfort" books with me at all times. "Comfort" books are those that I love to read over & over and it'll be great to have them at my fingertips when the yen hits me. Though unfortunately quite a few are not available in Kindle format, so I foresee having to to do some format finagling.
I also like the idea of cutting down on the number of physical books I have--someday I will be found dead under an avalanche of books, I'm afraid.

Hi Susan,
Welcome to the Kindley Book Club. Be sure to let us know when your Kindle arrives, and don't be shy about "shouting" for joy on this site when it does arrive. Most of us still remember how great we felt when we finally got our Kindles.
You, as a tome addict, are certainly in the right career and have found the right Library
Thing and Kindley sites.
I think some of our techie toolers in Kindley will tell you how to download many types of e-books on your Kindle after it arrives.
What kinds of things do you like to carve? If I remember correctly, you did say you like wood carving as a hobby among your other interests.

Thank you for your kind welcome, Ginny!
You can bet I will be shouting from the treetops when my Kindle gets here! :cD
As for carving, I mostly do animals, but have also done some small busts, and holiday items such as snowmen and Santa Claus. :c)

Hi Everyone,
I've had my Kindle since before Christmas. I use it so much I'm afraid I'll wear it out. I have over 200 books on it and never enough time to read. I found this group through the Amazon.com Kindle section.
Since originally I listed all my 800 plus books on Shelfari I'm only listing my books on my Kindle on LibraryThing.
I usually alternate between two books at the same time. Nonfiction is currently "The Reagan Diaries" and Fiction is "Murder at the Washington Tribune".
Besides reading I'm a club and tournament Scrabble player. In the spring I like to garden and watch the birds.
I look forward to hearing from you. Happy Reading!

Yipes Avalon! A Scrabble tournie player! My daughter would love to meet you ,I'm sure. She has reminded me in the past that when she was in grade school I used to read the dictionary to her and made a word freak out of her without realizing it. Now her friends won't let her play Scrabble with them, nor will they let her play another word game--I think that one's called Pictionary, or something like that.
How is your grandson doing? And his parents?
I'm so glad you joined our club. Now we have a new woodcarver and a wordsmith. How 'bout that?

Hi,
My name is Maryann, I live in the NYC area and I've had my Kindle for one month now. I learned about this group on the Amazon Kindle forums.
The Kindle has definitely impacted my book reading and buying habits - all for the better. At the moment I'm reading (on my Kindle):
What Angels Fear by C.S. Harris
The Great Upheaval by Jay Winik
Heroes by Paul Johnson
I've recently finished:
Pictures at a Revolution by Mark Harris
The Senator's Wife by Sue Miller
I haven't put all my Kindle books on my LibraryThing yet. Then again, I haven't put all my books on LibraryThing, either.

Oh my Goodness, I'm sick for a little bit and can't check in and we have a whole bunch of wonderful people joining!! How wonderful for our little club! So, Susan, Avalon and Maryann WELCOME TO THE KINDLEY BOOK CLUB!! I understand that some of you do and some don't have your kindles yet, it's OK, when you do have it, you'll LOVE it and until you get it, you'll LOVE this site. There is so much to do (although, I am partial to our group, it IS th most fun) : )
If you do have your kindle, you already know how great it is. I LOVE MINE and I know everyone else loves theirs as well. We are all avid readers with many different types of genres, so you're sure to find someone with the same interests or interested in what you are reading!
Glad to see that you all made your way over here! Hope your stay is a long and happy one!
Maryann, I live in Rhode Island, you might be the closest to me...
Is there anyone closer? I don't think so.
XoXo

Thank you ALL so much for joining!

Okay, Susan: Now I'm jealous. My b'day is the day before Christmas, and I love Christmas stuff. I have carved one or two Santa figures, but no snowmen. I'm not very good at carving--guess I like instant gratification too much. So I do make Santa figures but I use tin molds from Germany and a plaster-like substance that I pour into the molds. I do like painting the Santa figures. I'm not sure but I might have dumped all my carving knives. Dang it.

AStarIsBorn,
I live in Westchester County, NY so I'm a mere one state away.
This group has inspired me to put my Kindle books on my LibraryThing library. Still don't have all my "physical" books on. And I can't decide whether to put my audiobooks on or not.
Does anyone else here list their audiobooks on LibraryThing?

Star,
Thanks for your welcome, and I'm glad you're feeling better!
Ginny,
How great to have a Christmas-time birthday. :c) Find those carving knives--you'll find that snowmen are about the closest to instant gratification as you can get in carving! lol

Hi Maryann, welcome to the club. I am also in the midst of reading (also on my kindle) the Great Upheaval. So far I am really enjoying it. I appreciate that he is not writing in the normal "academic" style and his command of description is quite enjoyable to me so far. This is a historical period I knew of but really hadn't spent time on, so very interesting to me! best, richard

Hi avalon, welcome to our club! yes, i have found the kindle to be wonderful. I have always been a reader but i am finding myself reading more and moving out of my habitual genres! Gardening a big thing for me as well - i plant alot of hummingbird friendly plants and find it a joy. best, richard

Just popped in to thank all of you for your warm welcome! It's good to be here. I'm sick today as well, Star. :( It sucks, but such is life! I'm waiting for the doctor's office to call with an opening for me. I hate going to the doctor, but it's either get a slip from the doctor or get AWOLs at work. AWOLs are bad, so...end of story.
Still waiting on my kindle. Early February have all gotten shipping notices so I'm hoping soon...

Hi Tracey,
Feel better soon. I was at my doctor's office yesterday for a checkup, and among the doctor, his staff and patients, I was the only person there who did not have a cold or the flu. Something's going around.
Your job sounds fascinating. When you feel better I hope you will tell all of us more about it.
Take care of yourself.

Are you tracking the delivery truck stops on the way to your house? That's part of the fun.

Hi there, new to LT (signed up in June 2007, but just starting actually using the site a few days ago). I received my Kindle in December and love(d) it and read a lot on it. Alas, it died a young death last week, and I have to wait until I get back to the states to get a replacement shipped. Fortunately, I was able to find an English language bookstore near my hotel, lest I go insane being unable to read.
26TomeAddict
How did it happent to "pass away" if I may ask? :c}
27ty1997
First, the display seemed to move 'down' the screen about 10%. There was blank space at the top of the screen, and the dots showing progress 'fell off' the bottom of the screen so I couldn't see them. Then it froze up, and black lines appeared across the screen. Upon reset attempts to fix it, the screen went 80% black. Tried all I could with Amazon support, but it appears to be a lost cause. Have to wait until I'm back in the US for them to ping it on Whispernet to make sure though.

Yes, Ginny (if I may call you that), I'm better today. :-) Thank you.
My job entails a lot. It's kind of hard to explain it, it would take forever, but I basically help fabricate and build prototype cars. Everything having to do with a car body, every bracket and plastic part and interior and exterior piece is constantly changing. Right now, I work in the CAD room (computer aided drafting) and work with computerized car parts, sometimes changing them, sometimes making prints for Engineers so that the MMM's on the floor can change them, or fabricate them, which involves a lot of dimensioning and geometry and measuring to the tenth of a millimeter and etc... But right now I'm learning how to program our laser from a CAD program. The laser cuts out any cut-outs, holes, slots, openings, and trim on parts that are pressed in our press area out of metal.
My job never gets boring and it always keeps you thinking, and I really do love what I do. MMM's do so many different things and I've worked in so many different areas of the plant welding cars together, pulling cars apart, cutting cars apart and putting different style of cars together into one car (I once was on a team to put a mustang body on a lincoln underbody, which was a real big challenge). You know how cars have morphed over the years, right? Well, we're the people who have helped do that. :-)

ty1997,
That seems to be a common problem I've read about with the Kindle. They've had a lot of screen issues. That sucks, hope everything works out okay.
What kind of warranty comes with the Kindle, anyway?

Hello everyone
I just wanted to say hello and see how you've all been! I miss posting and promise to do more and more as I feel well enough to do so.
WOW! Your job sounds SO busy Tracey!
I haven't heard of any problems like that with the Kindle...I'm sorry that happened to you though. I've had mine for a while as well and (knock on wood) It's been perfect! I LOVE it! Plus, you'd be surprised just how many special people you meet just by making one little purchase. A purchase that turned out to be PRICELESS for me!
I miss you!!

Yes, Ginny. I tracked the truck and got a phone call when it was delivered at home(I was at work).
I am very happy with the machine. I like to look up words and explore ideas on the net as I read. The smooth and fast internet connection via whispernet is excellent.
I think Kindle will have a major effect on the publishing industry.
