I want to import new titles into the database that are not on Amazon or any site that LT uses as a source. I have a spreadsheet of the data, but when I use the Add Books import method, it wants to know a source.
Is there a way to me to add completely new titles (we're the publisher) without having to go through the manually add link for each of 72 titles?

You can import from file here http://www.librarything.com/import

>1 Magess: Unfortunately not. If books are not available from any source, then they will have to be added manually, one at a time.

That's not true. If the bulk uploader can't find the items in any source based on ISBN, it will import the fields in the example CSV. They're very limited, true, but it doesn't mean everything needs to be entered manually - a few basics like title, author, and tags can be imported.

We filled out a CSV like the sample that's available on the site.
It has Title, Author, Date, ISBN, Publisher, Format, BISAC
Would you expect that to work?

You need to make your file match the Sample File that Librarything gives for the sake of columns. To add books without a source, you want to keep the ISBN column, but make it a blank space.
I don't think the sample includes publisher, format, or BISAC

But then how do I get the ISBN associated with the records?
My company receives back data from LT for use in recommendations. So I'm trying to find a way to get good data in, so we get good data out.

No. BISAC and format are not in the sample CSV. You need to have *exactly* the columns in the sample - they can be entirely empty, but the column needs to exist - in *exactly* the same order. Keeping ISBN is harmless if the books aren't in any source; if they are in a source, however, LT will overwrite all the data for that record with what it finds from the source, if it's present there.

Is MARC import an option?

>7 Magess: If the ISBN is in the file and the book is not in a source, the upload will fail to load that book. You would need to upload without the ISBN, then go back and add each manually after. But your other data would upload cleanly.

Uhhh.
I'm not sure exactly what you're doing here, but you should carefully read the TOS to make sure you're abiding by them. Using LT's data for a commercial product might be iffy.

Also think hard about whether you are doing yourselves a favour by always giving 5 stars. This looks really cheesy when the author or publisher does it. Many LT members will assume that the book isn't good enough for real readers to bother with it.
