BBC Under Attack

Yes, I think we should all be worried about a world without the BBC - I don`t want to claim they are completely without error but I think there is a genuine desire to view things rationally and with as little bias as possible.

I have been listening to BBC World Service since I was 6 or 7 9(I do miss Big Ben) on both 41 meters and 49 meters on an antique analog receiver that my grandfather gave me. By the time I figured out what news was about I found out it was the only place to find out what was going on around the world. I didn't get into BBC3 until I found it streaming and the Proms. Never have listened much to the other services.

In any event, in the last few years the BBC has been a light in the wilderness based on what is called news in the US. Bottom line is I can get information from the stream and web much faster than the mess going on here in the US. It is less biased one way or the other compared to most broadcasts.

Interesting to hear your views on listening to the BBC on US matte4s. The whole things is such a circus I from the UK am completely, baffled. I also, feel, that the BBc is one last hope for genuine news and would be devestated if it is sabotaged by our own Tory government. I am worried I have to say - and am not sure the best way to go about protecting our wonderful service.

Oh no, a direct threat to radio 4, I just hope decent journalist and writers will, steer clear of a Murdoch station!

Watch this space. A new station positioned as a direct challenge to R4 is being launched this year. I believe that it comes from the Murdoch stable.

The BBC do not do themselves any favors in the way they collect their fee. Every month they contact me with "YOU ARE NOT PAYING YOUR TV LICENCE FEE. This is written in large red print on the OUTSIDE of the envelope with the threat of legal action.

I have never owned a TV. Thousands have the same complaint, still no change. No other "business" would dare do this, no wonder they are sadly losing a lot of support.

>12 Jammy1:

Capita are in charge of the day to day business of collecting the Licence Fee, and enforcement. Have you written back saying you don't have a TV.

Here's the BBC beating it's own path to the dustbin of History:

The BBC s just one example of a wider attack on public services:
