Anyone else excited about the two-volume Kate Wilhelm collection? (Currently up for pre-order at
http://www.centipedepress.com/masterssf/msfwilhelm.html, $75 for a two-volume set with 1,500+ pages.)

I haven't read any of her short fiction, but I recently enjoyed her novel Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang and was particularly impressed by her swift and classic prose style. So this new publication couldn't come at a better time for me!

I ordered. I've never read her before but it looked interesting from Jerad's blurb.

I also have never read her work, but I did order the set. It looks like I will probably enjoy reading her fiction, and I am looking forward to it!

I never ordered from CP (Yet... Dune where art thou?!) but I’m also intrigued by the blurb on her in the weekly newsletter, and like the presentation and price point. Unfortunately I don’t want to order right now, as shipping is getting unreliable and money is best spent differently in the current lockdown.

I just picked up an unsigned copy of this, I think one of the very last ones as it appears to be sold-out now. I bought it on the strength of the blurb and the value it offered. However, I too have never read Wilhelm - in fact, I admit, had never heard of her before this release. There is also remarkably little about Wilhelm online. Having died a couple of years ago, she seems to be an author who is in danger of being forgotten and it's in picking up these kind of writers that CP truly excels. Can anyone who's got a copy or read her before offer their thoughts on which are the strongest stories to start with?

>6 Levin40:
I agree with you that Centipede Press is excellent in publishing works by deserving authors who are not always widely known.
I think that you did the right thing purchasing Wilhelm book, as I have only seen positive reviews of her stories. I have not had a chance to read the CP edition myself yet, so I will refer to our knowledgeable fellow detotees for recommendations of the best stories.

>3 AnnieMod: You're right, excellent read. I've almost finished the first volume, I can't believe I didn't read her speculative fiction back when I was a youth and into sci-fi.

Based on your recommendation, the first work by Wilhelm I have just read was The Winter Beach.
Thank you! I liked it! I cannot believe I had never heard of Wilhelm before.
After I read something else, I might just start at the beginning of the 1st volume and go through every story.
