I think it's a good idea. Skeptics will say that the studio is just milking the franchise for as much cash as they can. I'm sure that factor didn't hurt their decision, but on the artistic merits, these later books have too much in them to condense into one film. I was especially disappointed in how leaving things out of the last film affected the pacing and might have confused those who hadn't read the book.

Unfortunately, it seems we're stuck with David Yates as director again for all of the rest of the movies. Bring back Cuaron!

I'm a bit cynical about the whole thing. For me, I'd say that the few before it merit this move as much, if not more (probably more), than this one. I am wondering though, I suppose, where they'll stop it between the two movies.

I was definitely not aware that we are stuck with Yates for the remainder of the films. At least he's better than Columbus (who I believe turned the movies into a pop culture phenomenon, not the budding classics the books are).

As for a split film...if it can remain true to JK Rowling, I'm completely okay.

Oh please! My entire family hates the Cueron film (for various reasons but mostly because of the scenic changes to the school grounds), loves the Columbus and other directors' versions, and I frankly don't care as long as Molly Weasley gets her fight on film!

I am surprised to hear that David Yates will be directing the rest of the Potter films, or in this case the last one now. I really can't say who I like more but from seeing HBP I am not happy with him as director.

I think it is a good idea to split this movie into two because it is so intense and too much would be lost to try and make it into a 2 hour movie.

Personally I think they could have made HBP either longer or have made that into two movies also.
