“We could be dealing with one of a lot of different things. There’s the copycat. Or maybe Church had a partner and we never saw it. Or maybe … I popped the wrong guy..” What are your thoughts on this when they discovered the body?

I believe that Harry killed the wrong man. Serial killers don't usually have partners. They don't like sharing the "credit". A copy cat would have to have knowledge in order to pull it off...the cross on the toenail...something that hadn't been released so it would be something that only the killer knew about. I think the Dollmaker is back and the shooting and the discovery of the body may have made him want to challenge the police again

I think the Dollmaker is still alive and that Bosch killed the wrong man.

As I said in reply to the previous question, I think someone
knew what Church was up to, (not necessarily a partner-in-crime). If the Dollmaker was still around, I think he'd do more than reveal an old body...

I’m going for a copycat but could well be wrong on this. I just don’t see a serial killer going missing for 4 years and not wanting to taunt the police.

I'm torn on this. A copycat seems reasonable but I can't see a serial killer actually stopping for four years. But I think it makes a better story, and just adds to Bosch's reputation, if it turns out he accidentally killed the wrong guy.

I have a big problem in that I want Bosch to have been right about Church being the Dollmaker. And I definitely don't want Money Chandler winning the case for Mrs Church.

>7 Sergeirocks: The woman...Mrs. Church)...waited 4 years to try to get justice for her "wronged" husband? I wonder if Chandler approached and encouraged her to file the suit to cause trouble for Harry.

>8 Carol420: Could be... Easy money, if Chandler can persuade the jury to believe her 'pretend' version of events.

>10 Andrew-theQM: And she told the police that she didn't know about the apartment...so it seems they didn't communicate very much.

I thought Bosch ‘popped the wrong guy’. When the letter led them to the new body, i thought the Dollmaker is still out there. I’m kinda hoping i’m wrong because like you all...i don’t like Mrs Church and don’t want Moneyhoney to win the case and get a big payoff for the two of them.

I was hoping it was a copycat. But that note that Bosch read he even feels that it is the dollmaker. Oh Boy!!! I still think Bosch did the right thing shooting Church. He had no idea what was under that pillow.

I don’t know that it’s necessarily a copy cat but may be someone that was aware of what Church was doing. Perhaps Church’s wife suspected or there was someone else that was close to Church.

>2 Carol420: the detail of the cross was disclosed later in Bemmer’s book. It just wasn’t public knowledge during the investigation
