Should Harry have gone after Norman Church on his own?

Yes and no. I wondered why he didn't call for backup. From what the woman had said about he makeup and the man being in the room...it sounded like Harry should have had time to call for help. He could have been more aggressive if the suspect had started to leave before help arrived. I don't remember if the woman told Harry that there was a woman in the room with the man or not...but if he thought that the "killer" was in the room and had a woman that he was going to kill that would have made time a more pressing matter and Harry diffidently should have acted alone..

I think he should have called for backup too especially if there was a possibility that Church may have had a weapon.

In an ideal situation, no. But the night shift had apparently gone home, so Bosch had to make a swift judgment call.
How many cops (at least fictional ones) feel they don't have time to wait for backup?

>4 Sergeirocks: I can answer that for the real ones...almost none and never. The media will damn them if they do and damn them if they don't.

No because if got to court no one to back up what happened or said.

Of course he should have called for backup but he didn't have all of the information and timing correct. If the guy hadn't reached under his pillow, he would still be alive.

I suppose all our stories would be quite boring if everyone always waited for backup, 😉!

Yes, he should have called for backup. It would put him in a better position...even if no one came, or arrived after he entered. If he thought the guy had a victim in the room, the sense of urgency would give him justification to enter alone

Not into his home. He should have had backup. At least that makes for one other witness when the shooting occurred.
>8 Sergeirocks: LOL So true. I don't think we would read them.

No. As I said earlier, he should have called for back-up and he made too big of a leap to assume that the Dollmaker had gone out in that one hour window, selected a new victim, convinced her to come home with him and was now killing her.
