I have The Lord of the Rings, but I'm still recommended to get the constituent parts of the novel, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Is there a way of adding it to the database that the three are within that one?

Not formally at present. There is the possibility of a new books/works structure sometime in the future.

I think the only work around now is to put both the trilogy and the individual books in your library (if you don't have both the other will likely be recommended). If the purity of your library is really important then buying a very cheap second hand copy of the trilogy will fix that.

PS I happen to have two sets, one three volumes in a slip case and one as separate volumes and I no longer get these recommendations.
