Queery used to have a long description that was likely meant to protect group members. It might have succeeded in that. But I think what the description has been doing more recently is causing confusion and wariness. I've attempted to simplify the description and also expand the focus of the group.
What do you think of it?
One passage I removed that I want to make sure you all know still applies:

Note About an Acronym:
QUILTBAG = Queer, Undecided, Intersex, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual, Asexual, and Gay
Not everyone who identifies with one of those labels identifies as queer (as it's both a general and specific term), but for the purpose of this group, all of these count.

Queery is a place for talking about queer books-- written by or featuring queer (QUILTBAG) characters-- from all time periods and parts of the world. Friendly discussion, polite promotion, and honest recommendations are all encouraged.

Our group encourages the discussion and praise of books featuring LGBT+ villains and anti-heroes and isn't inherently opposed to books involving the death of LGBT+ characters. Nuanced discussions of whether a particular book handles these scenarios appropriately is fantastic, but binary thinking on the topic as a whole is dull and unwelcome.

I would be happy to know what brings you here. Is it for the name in your profile or desire to see new topics? The first is totally valid. For the second, will you share which topics you would most like to see?
Also, are you interested in any challenges or contests? I've been thinking about holding a scavenger hunt, not as fancy as what the LibraryThing team hosts but focusing on queer themes.
