Irene's 2021 Book Challenge, YA Edition

Hi! I've never done this before but it seems like a very welcoming and supportive community, so I'm glad to get to know you guys!

Bio? I'm from New York. I turned 18 two months ago, hence why the YA books. My passion for reading started when I was in middle school with Percy Jackson & The Olympians and The Hunger Games. Catching Fire and Mockingjay are actually two of the few books I've bought so I still have them and they hold a special place in my heart.

I've stuck to YA books because they are what I've found most interesting. BUT I'd love to hear your recommendations and expand my reading genre :)

Last year my reading was a mess but I think I read over a 100 books. It's not a lot compared to what others have posted but for me looking back I think "how did I have the time to read all that?!" They were mostly on INKITT but this year I want to stick to published books.

Now for the books I've read this year:
1) Renegades -Marissa Meyer
2) Archenemies -Marissa Meyer
3) Supernova -Marissa Meyer
I'll rate it as a series. I re-read the first book to get through the second and third. I read it
when it first came out so it had been a while. I loved the dynamic between Nova and Adrien,
I think I was more in love with Adrian than Nova was. It had plot twists and got really dark
in others (wow). Would definitely re-read.

4) Lady Smoke -Laura Sebastian
This is the second book. It was alright. I didn't hate it but I thought it was the last one
since it said sequel. Stupid of me! It wasn't slow per say but it was a lot more tame than
the first one. I will read the third one because I can't function without a conclusion.

5) Obsidian -Jennifer L. Armentrout
6) Onyx -Jennifer L. Armentrout
7) Opal -Jennifer L. Armentrout (currently reading)
I'm a sucker for stories like these, hate-to-love. Daemon and Kat are THE comedic duo. They bug
each other until they're sick of each other, which doesn't happen so they just keep bugging each
other. Daemon's confidence is something I aspire to have. I made the mistake of starting the
Origin Series before this one and what happens to them was mentioned there. I'm just so happy
there are still more books to go so I'll let that slide. Besides, I don't know when what will happen
so there is still that surprise?

7) The Darkest Star -Jennifer L. Armentrout
8) The Burning Shadow -Jennifer L. Armentrout
9) The Brightest Night -Jennifer L. Armentrout (currently reading)
Is it obvious by now I mass read series? (ʘ‿ʘ) This is my 'I don't sleep until I finish
all the the books face.' What can I say that I haven't said already? Its great, its
awsome, I recomend it, Go read it! PS. Luc's self-love rivals Daemon...who am I
kidding, no one love himself more than Daemon.

10) A Court of Mist and Fury -Sarah J. Mass (currently re-reading)
11) A Court of Wings and Ruin- Sarah J. Mass
12) A Court of Frost and Starlight -Sarah J. Mass
So... I read all these books already years ago BUT I don't remember
exactly what happened (except for Frost and Starlight, that one I only
got through half). This is all to prepare for A Court of Silver Flames
Anyway, stuff is spicy between Rhys and Feyre.
(Another character who I'm in love with. Great!) Rhysand is so sweet and
caring, and puts Feyre's well-being before his desires. I love how they
work as a team and find hilarious how quickly they can get at each others
nerves.

11) Kingdom Of Ash -Sarah J. Mass (currently reading?)
I don't know if I should read the previous five books before I continue reading this
one. I started it a year ago and I was confused with the character names. Not the
main characters just the newer ones (I'm not that forgetful) but I read the first four
books in 8th grade. I just borrowed it again from the library. I remember loving them
but I'm lazy. I don't have hard copies, only of the first one. You guys let me know if I
should re-read. Thank you (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

12) The Queen's Assassin -Melissa De La Cruz (currently reading)
I'm still in the beginning of the book and I'm not sure what to expect but it
seems interesting.

>4 Irene_1677: I think you'll find it is not difficult to make friends here. x

Don't be afeared of venturing out to other threads too - no one will be anything other than delighted if you reach out.

Yep, what Paul said. This is a happily weird little corner of The Interwebs, where pretty much everyone in the group is lovely and fun and funny and kind. You'll like it here, I suspect.

>1 Irene_1677: re: Kingdom of Ash: I have this problem a lot because my memory is the absolute worst; I usually try to find a wiki page somewhere that lists important characters for the series and plot summaries for each entry. That way I don't have to reread them all if I'm feeling lazy but I won't be lost in the next book.

Welcome Irene! I also read a lot of YA, and I'll second everyone else here -- this is one of the happiest, purest little corners of the internet.

I'm working my way through Sarah J Maas's books slowly -- I've read two of the ACOTAR books and maybe 4 of the TOG books? I think Kingdom of Ash is the next one. I have them all on my kindle -- just need to get to them!

Thanks to your input, I've decided to add more work and read the previous five books of Kingdom of Ash so I'll be busy and sleep deprived for the next two weeks 😩😁
Any secrets on how to function on little sleep will be greatly appreciated

>9 Irene_1677: Plenty of coffee and urgent storylines should do it, Irene!
