Does anyone have some information about the libraries of Goethe (http://www.librarything.com/profile/JWvonGoethe) and Nietzsche(http://www.librarything.com/profile/FriedrichNietzsche)? I found their profiles some three weeks ago and left comments. But it doesn't seem somebody else (the creators of the profiles) passed by in the meantime. Nothing changed, nothing was added to the catalogues. And there are no links or connections on these profiles. Impossible to contact someone about these profiles therefore.
Anyone knows?

Nope. No one's asked to have them added to the lists of projects ...

Regarding Nietzsche's library there is an incomplete list at:

http://www.geocities.com/thenietzschechannel/library.htm

So if anyone does work on it they could start there.

Uuuh... I'm the culprit...

I found books about Goethe's and Nietzsche's library and thought I'd start by reserving their user names because they are people I'd really to see among the LL's. Unfortunately, a new semester started and I had much less time available than I had expected (as always...).

If anyone is interested in starting this work, please let me know and I'll post the passwords. If you're interested in the books I found, they were:

* von Keudell, Elise, ed. Goethe als Benutzer der Weimarer Bibliothek: ein Verzeichnis der von ihm entliehenen Werke. Weimar: Böhlau, 1931.
* Ruppert, Hans, ed. Goethes Bibliothek: Katalog. Weimar: Arion, 1958, and München: Saur, 1978.

and:

haha no problem at all, but thanks for posting! Yes, if anyone would like to work on these do let us know and we'll get them moving. They'd certainly be interesting collections.

The books Goethe borrowed from the library? That's pretty intriguing, yet spooky, and makes me feel a little paranoid, given the Patriot Act stuff not long ago.

I think I've read somewhere Thoreau still holds a record for the most volumes checked out from Harvard's library during hist time there... I assume there would be a record to back that up.

I would love to be a part of cataloguing Nietzsche's library; how would I go about becoming a part of that?

Thanks!

Hi Poplin!

You might try and see if a library near you owns one of the books I mentioned in msg #4; also, you can find (in)complete lists of Nietzsche's library here and here.
However, before you start working: I have no idea about copyright issues; perhaps jbd1 can help on this one?

If you're interested, let me know and I'll pass on the password...

If you're just adding bibliographic data, there are no copyright issues. If there is commentary in the books and that's being added, permission should be obtained.
