Okay here's to ending 2019 & 2020 a very random reading year ..... 2021 is here & I intend to read more consistently, rather than mindlessly goofing off on SM ( its been my guilty pleasure in 2019/2020 cause reasons ....)
apologise for dropping off the grid in LT land .....
Reading mojo is back :)

Normally, my reading is heavily slanted toward Speculative fiction, science fiction and fantasy genre reading, with Historical, Crime & Lit in there as well .....
Read off my shelves (BOMBs) & libraries first, but I say that every year & fail miserably due to my Inner Magpie - look shiny new thing .... but last 2 years have been vast improvement on previous attempts
You won't find me in the challenges, but will pop in & chat when the moment takes me ....
75+ Books probably not as am slow reader & life gets in the way, but you never know miracles do happen, I did hit 50+ last year so my reading is coming back to life ...
Oh yeah if you haven't guessed am based down under (NZ)
In my spare time I complete Ultra marathons .... so expect the normal dips of quietness

Hi Alex! Glad to see you're back among us.
14roundballnz
oops it happened again ...... what can I say but book funks have been my pandemic theme
seem to be coming right again
Been in latest lockdown since Aug-21 ( so 80+ days) - there is possibility of some restrictions being lifted next week, not hairdressers/barbers you know the important things 😎🙄 but maybe a bit of life back.
just finished in last week
The Stone sky & Remote control - Nnedi Okorafor - both great reads probably on the Afro-futurism continuum of genres ....

>14 roundballnz: I enjoy Nnedi Okorafor's books, but have not yet read either of those. I will have to see if my local library has copies.
Happy weekend, Alex!

>16 PaulCranswick: Thanks, Hope you are good - will try & start making my way round the group posts next few days ... daunting place after being missing for so long ... oops!
18roundballnz
>15 alcottacre: Both are great books - but the Stone sky is book 3 of a trilogy so you might want to start with Fifth season if going there ....

>18 roundballnz: Thanks for the heads up, Alex.

Finished The Sandman: Act II .... Audible versions have been something very special - totally immersive experience a rare 5 **** from me.
Now to find something totally different because book hangover will be a thing with this one ☝️

>20 roundballnz: Hi Alex. I've not done much reading this lockdown, haven't got up to much at all really. Anyway I wondered about the Gaiman on audio so pleased to see it's worthwhile and might try them myself. Have you read the GNs before?
22roundballnz
>21 avatiakh: Yeah, I think the fatigue for all things has been real this time round .... yes i read the GN's when I was younger loved them then ( sadly lost them, in one of my many house moves) - Audible versions are something special, very much worth entering into

Great to see you back and posting, Alex.
Would have preferred it to have coincided with graceful defeat by the Black Caps in the T20 Semis!

>22 roundballnz: I made it to Unity Bks and Jasons this morning. So great to have a browse in a bookshop after forever.
Jasons are still giving credit for good used books and offered me to go into debit as I've used up all my credit and didn't bring in my two bags stuffed with books.
I'll check the Gaimans over at audible. Did you go to his event at the Auckland Writers Festival earlier this year? My daughter and I went, didn't stay for a book signing, too much of a crowd for that. The event was ok, limited by the questions being asked by the interviewer.

>24 avatiakh: Haven't made it to Unity or Jasons yet, but have checked out Timeout books ( even ordered some early xmas presents during lockdown)
missed Auckland writers festival this year, was busy at work etc .... there were some interesting choices for interviewers this year.
x fingers will make it to the next Festival.

Have a lovely holiday, Alex.

Forget your stresses and strains
As the old year wanes;
All that now remains
Is to bring you good cheer
With wine, liquor or beer
And wish you a special new year.
Happy New Year, Alex.
