**An update has been made for what we will watch following the Harry Potter films. Please read the end of this first post to chose what you think we should watch as a group next. Thank you.**

A few group members watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix on dvd at the same time last night while in the chatroom. This was a first and it was very exciting to share the experience of watching this film with other Hogwarts Express members. For those of you who may participate, we would like to do this regularly on a weekly basis.

When:
Every Saturday beginning 9:30pm LT time (Eastern Standard Time)

Where:
The Hogwarts Express chatroom

Schedule:
To be determined.
Please take the poll linked her to voice your opinion of which film you'd like to watch during the month of April:
Saturday, April 5th
Saturday, April 12th
Saturday, April 19th
Saturday, April 26th

New Poll:
Movies to Watch Next

Updated to include a poll for what films we will watch after we have finished watching the Harry Potter films.

Wait so does that mean 9:30 in California k or 6:30 California?

3MrsGrinch

I voted.

4LadyN
Mar 30, 2008, 2:10 pm

oh boo hiss. THat would be silly o'clock in the morning for me. I'm afraid I do need at least some beauty sleep, contrary to popular belief.... ;-)

5Kerian
Mar 30, 2008, 3:48 pm

#2 MrsG:
6:30pm our time in California. :)

#4 LadyN:
*cowers*
Suggested time last night. I just checked a world clock - 2:30am your time, ekk! Perhaps alternative times can be worked out or discussed.

LadyN is five hours ahead of EST/LT time.
MrA is 9 hours ahead of LadyN and 14 hours ahead of EST/LT time.

I need to stop looking at times or time will pass me by and I will be late to work. ;)

6LadyN
Mar 30, 2008, 3:53 pm

Don't worry about lil ol' me... I know I'm the foreigner around here... ;-)

It makes way more sense to do it when most people are free.

7Kerian
Mar 30, 2008, 4:01 pm

Well, if this works, I figured the following out as very basic examples:

9pm for LadyN = 4pm EST = 3pm for Chcago/etc = 1pm PST

6pm for LadyN = 1pm EST = 12pm Chicago/etc = 10am PST

But then I had to stop because Australia just confused me. I don't like math. ;)

I predict I won't be free half the time because of work. I don't mind starting late in the movie like last night, though. It's much better than watching the movies with someone who says things like "You're a Harry Potter freak!" ;)

8littlegeek
Mar 30, 2008, 4:30 pm

I participated last night and it was really, really fun. I highly recommend it. See how many of us have the same comment at the same time.

I think we should watch them in order.
woo hoo!

9foggidawn
Mar 30, 2008, 4:39 pm

I agree -- watching them in order would be fun. And if I know what we're watching in advance, I should be able to get my hands on the movie of the week! Huzzah!

10compskibook
Mar 30, 2008, 5:19 pm

I also had a great time last night! I can't believe how fast the movie went. I liked that we had different opinions about different parts and everyone's opinions were okay.

I at first thought we should do GoF next and continue in reverse order, but that would leave out a lot of people who didn't know about last night. Let's start at the beginning and work forward.

11MrsGrinch
Mar 30, 2008, 5:21 pm

I agree.

12biblioholic29
Mar 30, 2008, 7:27 pm

I took the survey and agree that in order would be best. I hope lots of people can do it, it was a lot of fun. I was thinking that we might try to have two separate set times per weekend and you go in when you have time. An earlier time, where LadyN and any of our other Brits as well as anyone who might have plans later in the evening could do it, and then a later time for the night owls. If the times were planned correctly and stuck too, I think it could work quite well. I could see there being a time when I might not be able to do the late one but could do the earlier one. What does everyone else think?

13littlegeek
Mar 30, 2008, 7:29 pm

I like bib's idea. Weekends are spotty for me on LT, but I would make time to do that again. So. Much. Fun.

14MrsGrinch
Mar 30, 2008, 7:38 pm

I probably be able to do it. My parents will think its wierd though.

15gpwts
Mar 30, 2008, 8:59 pm

i would defiently do that, be a little tricky, but my parents would have to cave, because they love you people

16MrsGrinch

18Kerian
Mar 31, 2008, 1:50 am

I just voted for watching them in order as well.

#9 foggi:
Huzzah! I'm very glad to hear that! :)

#12 biblio:
That sounds like a great idea! I love it! Are you thinking on the same day, or two separate days?

#14 MrsG:
My family will think it's pretty weird, too. ;)

#15 g:
Awww! :)

#16 MrsG:
I get that from a lot of people in RL.

#17 jp:
LOL, erm, I mean, that's terrible! (No, I mean about the glitter!)

19biblioholic29
Mar 31, 2008, 8:25 am

#18 K:

I was thinking on the same day, but perhaps it would make sense to do it on a Sat. night and Sun. day. I think we should get LadyN's opinion on the "daytime" one, since she will be the main regular at that one. It'd probably be good too if on Fridays people who are going to participate just post as to which one they're intending to do, so that we know there will be at least a couple people for each (by the way, if I don't have plans, I'll probably end up doing both!). What do you think?

20MrAndrew
Mar 31, 2008, 8:57 am

I'm guessing that the second, Sunday viewing should be no later than 4pm USA Eastern/LT time, that would make it 9pm in the UK.

Don't worry about the timing for me for that one. I would join the 9:30pm Saturday LT-time session instead.

21Mandy2
Mar 31, 2008, 9:45 am

Sounds like fun...i voted for in order just like everyone else...Now i just hope i can get the rest of the movies in time...One of my good friends is getting married on the 20 and as i'm in the wedding i will not be there for the 19th showing but will hopefully be there for the rest.

22Kerian
Mar 31, 2008, 12:08 pm

#19 biblio:
I think you're right about getting LadyN's opinion.
As for posting which movie will be watched merely one day in advance...I think it should be sooner so foggi can join in! We love her and would miss her terribly if she missed out.
Oh, dear. Add that, biblio! Hehe. You know you're addicted the HE when...you participate in both showings of the Harry Potter movies. ;)

23biblioholic29
Mar 31, 2008, 12:29 pm

LOL, I guess so K!

I didn't mean announce which movie on Friday, I'm saying everyone who plans to participate should just say which one they are planning to attend, so that we know that there will be at least two for them all, because it would be less fun to watch with just Dobby! :)

24Kerian
Mar 31, 2008, 12:33 pm

Oh, okay. Yes, that sounds very good. :)

25foggidawn
Mar 31, 2008, 12:51 pm

Once we get through the HP movies, we should do The Princess Bride, and others that get a lot of mentions here (maybe Aladdin, maybe the LotR movies. . . the possibilities are endless).

26Kerian
Mar 31, 2008, 12:58 pm

Pride and Prejudice, though we should try to watch the same version at once.

I have two (Keira Knightley and hmm suge knows which the other is) and someone from work has an extra copy of the Colin (last name?) one that they said they'd give me.

27biblioholic29
Mar 31, 2008, 2:13 pm

I completely agree once we're done with HP we should do other movies. I think we should try to only do adaptations though I think or movies about the lives of authors (a la Becoming Jane), to keep our LT roots.

28Mandy2
Mar 31, 2008, 3:22 pm

I like that plan!!

29Mandy2
Mar 31, 2008, 3:23 pm

30LadyN
Mar 31, 2008, 5:32 pm

Hello! Bless you all for being so considerate!

Here is my suggestion.... I'll watch the designated film, and then if I'm around at the time, I'll join all you guys while you watch in the chatroom. Or something. Does that make sense?

I'm so touched you all wanted to get me involved though!

31compskibook
Mar 31, 2008, 6:38 pm

I love the idea of doing other movies after the HPs. I can't wait for all the previously mentioned. It will be great! I would also like to suggest the Winona Ryder Little Women. I am watching now wishing there was someone to talk to about it. It also stars Christian Bale as Laurie. YUM!

32biblioholic29
Mar 31, 2008, 6:43 pm

I LOVE that movie! Christian Bale is yummy and all the acting is good. I haven't seen it in forever. That would be great!

33kgriffith
Mar 31, 2008, 6:44 pm

you GUYSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! it's bad enough that you're slowly increasing our debt by pointing out features on LT that make it necessary for me to buy new books - now i'm going to have to tailor my dvd purchases to HE, too!!! :-P

34rissa
Mar 31, 2008, 6:50 pm

I probably won't be able to watch the movies at the designated time (possibly not at all unless they happen to be on tv), but I might come in for the discussion.

35littlegeek
Mar 31, 2008, 7:09 pm

We had people commenting along who weren't watching the movie and it worked out. And we had MrA being MrA, too, all at one time. What a party.

39MrsGrinch
Mar 31, 2008, 11:29 pm

MrsA

40MrAndrew
Apr 1, 2008, 12:40 am

i was wondering that myself.

Actually MrsA did hop on for a minute during that chat session, while i was away. I think she typed something about goats, but she won't tell me. It's probably best if i don't know.

41Kerian
Apr 1, 2008, 12:41 am

Goats? Are you being your silly self or no? If serious, I remember something about goats being posted in chat.

42MrAndrew
Apr 1, 2008, 12:52 am

no, deadly serious. There was too much chatting to go back to find what she had typed. But the word "goat" did stand out, LOL.

I think Galaxy Quest would be a good one to add to the "When We Are Done With HP Movies" list.

50biblioholic29
Apr 3, 2008, 1:40 pm

Galaxy Quest is awesome. It's not based on a book, but I have seen it quoted quite often on HE, so it could be good for the people who have never seen it.

I'm totally excited about meeting K! Yay! I was just thinking this morning about the timing issue. I would like to be home in time for CoS. It takes about an hour and a half to get to your neck of the woods for me, K. If I leave by 4:30 I'll have plenty of time to come home and settle in for the movie, even if I encounter traffic.

If we meet up at Noon or so that gives us lots of time for a meal and shopping.

OMG, we're going to have FUN!

Call me tomorrow, k? Before 10 pm because I have an appointment with the luscious Jamie Bamber.

Sillies as well! :)

Urgh, wait. MrsG is on the west coast.
MrsG, it will be 6:30pm in our time zone.

you crazy kids :-D

It doesn't matter if CoS is your least favourite. You can still make fun of the bits you don't like ;)

And, there are great parts in every movie.

And the lamest Easter Egg ever known! We'll have to sit through the credits to get that!

Really? You dislike CoS more than GoF? or OotP? (I'm talking movies here.) I agree, the book is quite dull, but the movie at least stays true to the book and doesn't make up giant dragon fights or anything.

148biblioholic29
Apr 14, 2008, 6:29 pm

Kerian there is nothing at all wrong with taking a "mental health day" every once in a while. Plus it's true, I mean, they're not going to fire you for being "sick" one day and you will be leaving soon. (Oh my gosh, now I feel like a horrible person for encouraging you! But I'd probably do it if it were me!)

149Kerian

This is true. I don't know. I have to think about it. Don't feel like a horrible person, though!

150kgriffith
Apr 15, 2008, 2:25 am

K, i know where you work and i know their mentality because i've worked for countless similar companies; you will NOT be fired for a sick day (call in to avoid a write-up), regardless of whether or not you accrue sick time, first of all. yes, it's an at-will state, but still - it just doesn't happen unless you've given them a completely separate reason to let you go. second of all, you're leaving in how long? c'mon now. finally, this will be my first time joining the group movie watch, and you must be there! i'm watching SS right now and will watch CoS between now and Saturday so i'm "up to date"!

151Kerian

152biblioholic29
Apr 15, 2008, 8:23 am

LOL K. I agree with laia though, you should call in, but just tell them you're sick, but wanted to check in anyway. This shows them you're "responsible" or whatever. It'll be fine.

Okay, a seriously guys, I'm really concerned about ABC spying on us! Why have they decided to do these movies on the exact same days as we have decided to do them. It's just creepy. STOP IT ABC! WE KNOW YOU'RE WATCHING US!!!!

That would not work, trust me. Let me explain. The day Loofy died, I knew that might happen and told them just as much while trying to get out of coming to work that day. They had me call six people for back up, none of which would take my shift, and the boss said this: "Sorry, Kerian. I wish there was something I could do." Um, yeah there was something he could do, the _______! And there's that I nearly had to quit to say my goodbye because he wasn't going to let me go!

#157 Normally I would have said something around those lines too, however most retail corporations have a "no reference" policy, meaning that no one there can give personal references. The most they'll be able to say is "yes that person worked here" and "yes or no, they are or are not eligible for rehire" and calling out sick one day is not going to make you ineligible for rehire. All that said K, you have to do what is comfortable for you. I know you didn't get a lot of hours this week and if you need the work to get money together for your trip, we will all understand, but we will miss you!

i'll be there! i'm trying to bully my partner into joining us, too, but chatting while watching a movie is exactly the thing that makes her brain implode about me - she just doesn't get it at all, hahaha...

K, my advice may be too late, but here's my thought: don't just no-call no-show, that's poor form. if you're quitting in a month, i doubt you have enough time to rack up the necessary write-ups to get yourself canned, and one call-out will NOT hold up as a reason not to pay unemployment benefits if they tried it. If you know that you're "extra" staff (i believe you said they have a closer, so you're not really putting them in too much of a bind) and if you can still make your trip without this shift, i say tell them something of a personal nature came up and you're very sorry you can't be in two places at once.

but that's just me, and i'm a bad influence :D

the dangerous part is that i'm a very intelligent and resourceful bad influence ;)

(not to mention humble, but that's beside the point, right?)

185kgriffith
Apr 19, 2008, 6:16 pm

we might have to divide P&P into parts for movie watch. I think Room With A View was mentioned too but I don't know how many people would have access to it. Princess Bride might be a good place to start.

224biblioholic29
Apr 28, 2008, 12:09 pm

Yes, we definitely said we would divinde the BBC P&P in half. I do think we should do Room with a View eventually too, I bet people can get it from the library/video store/internet resource of their choice when it's time. I agree the Princess Bride would probably be a good start.

princess bride should be easy for most people, I think many group members own it.

#218 bib:
What is the BBC version Pride and Prejudice? Is it this version (Colin Firth)? I need to go find a copy.

I own this version (2005) and this version (2003) of Pride and Prejudice.

I agree with riss that many us probably have Princess Bride. I have that as well as Little Women. I've never read Room with a View but would gladly watch it - I just need to find a copy.

227Marensr
Apr 28, 2008, 1:36 pm

It is the Colin Firth version K.

I've never actually managed to watch the Colin Firth version (BBC) all the way through, but I haven't managed to read the book all the way through either. I have watched the Keira Knightley version many times however.

Room with a View is one of my all time favorite movies, so I do hope we watch it eventually!

ETA: I was at Target on my lunch hour and saw the Masterpiece Theater version of Sense & Sensibility on DVD there. I'd rather watch the Emma/Kate/Alan/Hugh version when we get to that one though!

230Kerian
Apr 28, 2008, 3:38 pm

I also have Sense and Sensibility, that very version. I have as of yet to watch it. I've read the book, though.

Lots of those sound good to me. I'd vote for The Princess Bride first, as we quote it so often.

(Edited to fix a typo)

233compskibook
Apr 28, 2008, 8:22 pm

I think The Princess Bride would be a logical first choice. Maybe someone (K?) could do a survey with the other suggestions. Suggestions with the most votes go first. I love all of them, except I have never seen Room with a View.

Another suggestion: Maybe we could rewatch one Harry Potter a month leading up to the new movie:

June: PS/SS
July: Chamber of Secrets
August: Prisoner of Azkaban
September: Goblet of Fire
October: Order of the Phoenix
November: Half Blood Prince!

234biblioholic29
Apr 29, 2008, 9:52 am

AHHHHHH Half Blood Prince! I think that's a good idea. We'll have to figure out how we'll do HBP. Maybe we all try to see it before that week's regular movie time and talk about it then? Did that make sense? I'm not sure!

235MEM82

A lot depends on whether or not I'm reading, whether or not the children are actually sleeping like they are supposed to be and whether or not my husband is on his way home at that time... oh and whether or not we're stuck in a fierce Soul Caliber/ Mortal Combat battle to the death 8) OH so mature I know, I know. I was thinking of it, but worried if I didn't enter enough choices. I'll go ahead and do that now, though.
Btw, I think your one HP movie a month till the release of HBP sounds like a fantastic idea! :)

#234 bib:
Makes sense to me. I only have one question. Do you mean meet in chat early before seeing a movie together in chat that weekend, the same time as usual (9:30pm LT time), or do you mean that we should simply discuss the HBP movie and not watch another on that day?

#235 MEM:
I hope you can make it to a movie soon! We would love to see you there! :)

239foggidawn
Apr 29, 2008, 2:04 pm

I like the idea of having a time to chat in the chatroom about HBP, but with all of us seeing it at different times, it seems like it might work better to discuss it out here on the threads, so we can give our impressions when it's fresh in our minds. Maybe we could do both (a thread about the HBP movie and a dedicated chat session)? Oh, well . . . that's still a long way off, alas! I do like the idea of doing one movie a month until the release.

I completely agree. That sounds like a great idea! :)

The poll is just about made. It includes every movie brought up on this thread except for Harry Potter films. I'm going to add two of my own suggestions to the choices.

I'm wondering if I should post the poll in a new post or in the first post on this thread. Both maybe?

241Kerian
Apr 29, 2008, 2:32 pm

**The poll for what movie we should watch after completing the Harry Potter movies is linked in post #1 under 'New Poll'**

I meant that we could just meet in chat at our usual Sat. time and talk about HBP the weekend after it's release. I had thought about threads but was concerned about spoilers and thought it would be fun to do a chat on it. I like the idea of doing both though, there shouldn't be too much spoilage and we can always put a spoiler warning in the topic heading.

248Kerian
Apr 29, 2008, 3:25 pm

I'm sure anyone who enters a thread for the HBP movie after it's release date can count on spoilers. We'll mark them as such. We had to deal with that with DH was released last summer. :)

I had thought I could be there for the movie an hour late this weekend (just chat, no movie), but I can't after all. I'm supposed to go to dinner with my mom's family to celebrate a couple birthdays. I'll likely be gone from LT all weekend but for late Sunday with everything we have going on. Know I'll be wishing I could be here with you guys!

It seems I'll also not be able to make it for the weekend we start watching non-HP movies as well (05/10). It's the day before Mother's Day and I sell beauty care for a living - I have work all day. I don't know why I didn't see that one coming.

May 5, 2008, 3:25 pm

So what are the poll results?

268compskibook
May 7, 2008, 8:23 pm

Okay, In the lead is Princess Bride with 12 votes. Next is Fellowship of the Ring with 10 and then the BBC/Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice with 8. Room With a View and Sense and Sensibility are tied with 7 votes.

Input needed: Who will be here Saturday and what would you like to watch?

Also, if you can't be here, what would you like us to hold back on so you can be here another week to watch it?

Or should we take the guesswork out and just watch in the winning order?

269biblioholic29
May 7, 2008, 8:42 pm

I think we should just do it in the winning order, otherwise what was the point? It's the fairest way really. I should be there, though I'll have to go find a copy of Princess Bride.

270foggidawn

Fellowship of the Ring is next. I also like the extended version best, but if we do that one, maybe we should break it up over two nights. What does everyone else think? I don't have the "short" version, but I can get a copy. Let's decide by Tuesday, maybe?

May 12, 2008, 9:58 am

I'm pretty sure that I'll be there, and I'll dig my copy of the movie out. I only have the "short" theater cut of that one. I was sorry to miss the Princess Bride!

294biblioholic29
May 12, 2008, 11:07 am

I have both versions. It sounds like there are people who are going to have to rent or borrow it regardless of which version we pick. One of the nice things about the extended versions is they throw in scenes from the books that were missing from the theatrical version, but it is long so we would have to break it up or start early. It might make sense to start earlier even if we do the theatrical version, as was said above, it's not short either!

If we do FotR next week should we then continue with Two Towers and Return of the King? They weren't on the poll but that would make the most sense wouldn't it?

I have this Saturday off work and can join the group movie watch.

How do you know if your copy of The Fellowship of the Rings is short or extended version? My copy merely says 'Widescreen Version.' It says it is approximately 178 minutes.

I would love to see what others think of compski's idea (#298). :)

300littlegeek
May 12, 2008, 5:30 pm

I would be willing to wait on further LOTR's. One per month is fine.

Kerian, 178 minutes is 2.97 hours. I believe that would be extended, although I could be wrong. It was long in the movie theatre, too.

Oh, I love hobbits. And elves! Yay Legolas!

304biblioholic29
May 14, 2008, 2:14 pm

Okay, so we better make a decision, Saturday is two days closer now! I guess we should probably go with the Theatrical version, more people seem to have access to it and anyone who doesn't should be able to rent it pretty easily. Should we stick with 9:30 or maybe do 9:00? I know that might be a bit early for the West Coasters, but just the regular version is 3 hours, which would make it midnight-thirty for us East Coaster before it is over. I don't mind, I don't have plans on Sunday, but I don't know about anyone else. Comments?

306Kerian
May 14, 2008, 2:21 pm

I have Saturday off work. Starting the movie a half hour early won't be a problem for me. I'd hate for Easter coasters to be asleep at their computers. I think we would need to make sure it would be well known that we would be starting a half hour early.

This is so exciting! I haven't watched any LOTR movies in a long time. No one around here likes them except me. I think some LTers have said to me that they'd watch it with me, if only we didn't live so far away from each other. This will be great! :)

Hmm, I don't type how I talk. I was talking to someone as I typed and just had to edit what I wrote. I don't say 'we would.' I say 'we'd.' It just doesn't seem like a real word when I write that. Silly Kerian trivia.

We could announce it on the profiles of "regulars" as well as create a new thread intended only to last a short time. The thread can merely be used as a reminder in the first post. After that, we can hijack it so people will be more likely to see it as it gets posted on. That way, they'll be more likely to read it. At least, I think that's how it works. ;) What does anyone think?

I had such a great time at the group movie watch this Saturday. I wish that I could come next week, but I have to work. Bummer. What are you guys going to watch? Do you think someone could post a list of the films planned?

317Kerian
May 18, 2008, 5:02 am

Post #1 has a link to a survey for what movies we may watch next. Please feel free to take it. Looking over it, these are the current results of movies we haven't yet watched:

Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth version) tied with A Room with a View (8 votes)
Aladdin tied with Sense and Sensibility (7 votes)
Others tied (6 votes) : Becoming Jane, Galaxy Quest, The Golden Compass, and Little Women.
Edward Scissorhands (5 votes)
Pride and Prejudice (Knightley version, 4 votes)
Eragon (3 votes)

I have a couple of polls to make since suggestions have been made to add Two Towers, The Return of the King, and The Pirates of the Carribean movies to the mix. I'll think I'm about to fall asleep so I'll be sure to try to get polls up for opinions on when to watch those ones tomorrow (er, Sunday).

318Espeon200
May 18, 2008, 2:12 pm

I have a suggestion on what to do since we have so many tied movies right now. You don't even have to listen if you don't want to, but this would be a great way to do tiebreakers.

How about you take the top three movies (Or four since hose are tied right now) and make a new poll each week with them in it and only one choice allowed. That way we can get a short list and narrow down what LTers want to watch the most. The ones that don't win the poll get pushed to the next week and so on.

What do you think? Am I overthinking this whole process?

319Kerian
May 18, 2008, 2:22 pm

I think that's a great idea, Espy! Do you have an idea how we should add the LOTR and POTC to it before we create any poles?

We may just need to start a new poll with all of those and start over because I don't think there's an easy way to add them into the old poll.

You might also include a write in field so that f there are any other movies people want that were forgotten they can be added in.

321Kerian
May 18, 2008, 3:08 pm

Neither pole site I've used allows write in responses. One of my sisters is great with things like that and might know of one so I'll ask her about it when I see her later today.

322Espeon200
Edited: May 18, 2008, 6:38 pm

I use Survey Monkey a lot, and while you can only get 100 responses from a survey, they do allow write-ins.

ET fix a typo. If you could only get 10 responses it would be pretty useless.

It might be too late, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents and say that I like the idea of giving the top four their own poll to see what we will watch next (this should be done soon I suppose) but I think maybe we should hold off on adding any new movies into the mix until we've gotten through the list we already have. There is definitely such a thing as too many choices and while I love the movies that you want to add, I can wait a couple months to see them.

May 20, 2008, 11:51 pm

Yes, we need to add The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and maybe The Golden Compass to that poll. What do you think guys?

328foggidawn
May 21, 2008, 10:04 am

I think The Golden Compass was already on the poll, but I agree about adding LWW . . . eventually. Right now, I think we need to decide what movie we're watching Saturday -- and for that, I think we need to stick to the top three or four choices from the list, or we'll end up on Saturday with no idea what we're watching. Ether that, or we could arbitrarily decide to continue with The Lord of the Rings, watch The Two Towers this week, The Return of the King next week, and in the meantime revamp the poll.

Perhaps the first question should be, who plans to participate in the group watch this weekend?

Status: I'm making a poll on Survey Monkey now.

332Espeon200
Edited: May 21, 2008, 12:59 pm

Ok here is the poll so that we can see what the popular demand is.

What do YOU want to watch

The movies that are open for voting are listed in post #317. I only listed the first four, but the ones that lose will be recycled into the next poll, so no worries.

I've also included a box at the bottom to add any movies you want to watch eventually. This is not a suggestion for the near future. If there was a movie that was not on the earlier list that you think would be good for the next go-around (after we finish off all the movies on the list already) add the title here and any pertinent information about it such as year or which version it is if there are multiple versions and that may be added to a new list when we get to that point in a couple of months.

Thanks for voting!

ETA: Unfortunately I can't set it to automatically redirect back to HE. Sorry.

For those enquiring minds who miss instant gratification, we have had 7 respondents and right now Aladdin and Pride and Prejudice are tied with 3 votes each. Room with a view is in a distant third with one vote.

Voting ends Friday night so make your vote known!

Ok, It's time for another update.

Currently nine people have responded to the poll.

In the lead is Pride And Prejudice with 4 votes.

In second is Aladdin with 3 votes.

Tied in third are A Room with a View and Sense and Sensibility with 1 vote each.

Only 24 hours remain for you to make you choice known!

354Espeon200
May 24, 2008, 10:49 am

MMM'kay. The final results are as follows:

11 Votes total
5 for Pride and Prejudice
4 for Aladdin
1 For A Room With a View
1 For Sense and Sensibility

Suggestions for movies to watch in the future were Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Return of the King; The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (new version); and The Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl.

Since we chose Pride and Prejudice, we will have to spread it over two weeks. My suggestion is that since it is 300 minutes long (5 hours) we watch the first 150 minutes (2.5 hours). That equates to the first DVD or the first three VHS tapes. If anyone is watching the VHS tapes she or he will need to inform the other watchers when the switch comes.

So y'all at the chat tonight.

355compskibook
May 24, 2008, 11:49 am

Thanks, Espy! I'll be there!

Shall we just say now that Aladdin will be after the two weeks of Pride and Prejudice, then Room With a View and Sense and Sensibility?

When we get near the end there could be another survey with the left over choices and new suggestions.

What does everyone think?

356Kerian
May 24, 2008, 12:18 pm

I think that sounds like a good idea. It will allow people time to plan when they need to get a hold of these movies if they don't already have them.

357Espeon200
May 24, 2008, 1:25 pm

I think we ought to open up a new poll for Sense and Sensibility since they were tied. We can just go ahead and do them in the order suggested. Just whatever.

358foggidawn
May 24, 2008, 2:05 pm

I did not have time to go on a hunt for the movie as I had to help my parents clean for a dinner party on Saturday. I won't be there next week either, I won't have time to catch up. I took the survey K, thanks for doing it so early! The lateness of the last poll was one factor in me not watching. Other important vocabulary words from Movie Night:

Taciturn: reserved or uncommunicative in speech; saying little. We are each of an unsocial, taciturn disposition, unwilling to speak, unless we expect to say something that will amaze the whole room. Many of us felt we were taciturn. Oddly, I think Mar and MrA did, too.

High Dudgeon: a feeling of offense or deep resentment. Take him away, for he has been in high dudgeon all morning! The next day I was reading the UK version of HBP and came upon the term referring to Ron!

I hope the capital and taciturn Mar and MrA don't go into high dudgeon about my above comments!

371MrAndrew
May 26, 2008, 6:16 pm

"high dudgeon" was used in a newspaper article i read yesterday. spoooooooooooooooky...

I'm taciturn in RL but obviously not so much on the innerwebs, like a lot of people i think. Although there are exceptions. I'm told that i am quite chatty when someone is trying to read, or pay attention of a TV show. Some people just don't fully appreciate the wondrous munificence that is me.

375Marensr
May 27, 2008, 1:10 am

Hmm no offense taken by me kirby. I think I am taciturn especially in large groups of people and sometimes here as well because I am simply very busy lately.

Hmm reading the curmudgeon A's posts above I am wondering if he is now channeling Gilderoy Lockhart. Doesn't "Some people just don't fully appreciate the wondrous munificence that is me." Doesn't that sound Lockhartian.

Hmm wastrel.

Too late too late espy once the wastrel and the curmudgeon are out they can't be stopped.

Now gadabouts and dilletantes perhaps.

Nonetheless MrA don't get in a high dugeon because I called you a curmudgeon or compared you to Gilderoy I think you are captial too Frater.

Top Movies (62.5% / 5 votes):
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardobe, Sense and Sensibility

50% / 4 votes :
Becoming Jane, A Room with a View, The Two Towers

37.5% / 3 votes :
