I finished Lost Souls by Lisa Jackson & started Silent Fall by Barbara Freethy.

I'm half-way through Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank and enjoying it immensley.

I finally gave up on The Gilded Web. I just couldn't get through it.

I started The Book of the Seven Delights by Betina Krahn over the weekend and am liking it so far. This is a new author for me, but I got it based on marietherese's recommendation. It kind of reminds me of that movie The Mummy. The heroine is a librarian (hurrah!) and the hero is a wanted man who ends up helping her in her quest through Morocco for the lost library of Alexandria. It's fun and adventurous and in a great north African setting. And yes, I'm totally picturing Brendan Fraser as the hero (I just can't help myself)! :D

I finished Twilight by Stephanie Meyer and I'm half way through her second book, New Moon. I'll work on Eclipse next. I've read some reviews of these books where a complaint is that Bella is just obsessed with Edward to the point that its not healthy. Well, its true she's obsessed but she's also a 17 year-old high school girl and I think we all tend to be a bit obsessive at 17! I know I had my moments much to my embarassment.

I also picked up A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray and Undead and Unpopular by MaryJanice Davidson from the library this weekend. I hope I'll get to them soon but the homework is piling up so we'll see...

katybear,
Have you read Jacob? The herione is a librarian in that too.

>4 miilva: Miilva - I agree about the obsession thing, I was certainly like that as a teen and my son is like that about his girlfriend now (something I'm not entirely comfortable with, but what can you do?) I love Twilight, it is still my favorite book now even though I read it a while ago.

I started Words of Silk, but have been sidetracked again. I've been reading the fantasy novel Luck in the Shadows after going to a convention the author sat a couple panels at. It was a book I was interested in before I realized that she was the author and it has been a pretty addicting read.

I've enjoyed all the books in the Nightwalker series, and Jacob is my favorite. Glad to hear others like it, too. Ms. Frank has written interesting demons, something that was fresh (to me anyway) compared to what else is out there right now.

Yesterday, I finished Warlord by Elizabeth Vaughan. This series was wonderful and I'd highly recommend it for those who like a sf/romance mix.

Last night I read Robin Owens' Heart Dance. I really liked the hero, Saille T'Willow and both empathized and was frustrated by the heroine DuFluer Thyme. Doubt that I'll read the entire series, but this one was good.

The rest of this week I hope to read Bride for a Knight by Sue Ellen Welfonder. This is my first book by Ms. Welfonder--has anyone else read her stuff?

If I finish that then I'm turning to a nonfiction book, Susan Jacoby's The Age of American Unreason. She was on the radio this morning and had some interesting things to say about American mass and pop cultures and our interes in learning. The part of the conversation I heard got me thinking, so I ordered the book from my library.

I read Forever Yours by Janmarie Anello. Good first novel. The heroine was a little too self-absorbed for me, but other than that the book was great.

I just finished Northanger Abbey. Delightful, one of Austen's best. Catherine Morland is adorable and Tilney is irresistible! One of my favorite Austen gentlemen! A must read, I'm sorry it took me so long to get around to reading it! Now, I'm going to begin a Scottish romance, My Devilish Scotsman by Jen Holling.

One Night With A Prince, Sabrina Jeffries (i'm really enjoying her Royal Brotherhood series - i'm a little hesitant to finish the last one!)
Don't Tempt Me, Sylvia Day

and revisiting some old Judith McNaught favourites...

azn - the Royal Brotherhood series was one of my favorites by Jeffries. I especially liked Draker's story - he's such a great hero.

Azn & Katy, my favorite was Draker's story, too. I'm a sucker for those wounded heroes. I loved that series, and the School For Heiresses books, too

I read Be Mine Tonight by Kathryn Smith. The hero in this one is too self-absorbed for me, and the plot doesn't focus enough on the over-arching storyline, but I had to read it to have the backstory for the series! Altogether it was an ok book. The second in the series is good. I'm going to start the third, Taken by the Night, now. I think the fourth should be out soon...

I reread temptation by Nora Roberts and Magic Study by Maria Snyder which was the second in a series and quite good. Unfortunately it would be difficult to enjoy it much if you hadn't read Poison Study.

Apr 3, 2008, 10:00 am

I love Poison Study and Magic Study! Do you have Fire Study yet? I do, but I haven't had time to reread the first two (again) so I haven't gotten to it yet. Great fantasy romance...I'm particularly fond of Valek *sigh*

I finished Blood and Chocolate and am almost done with The Silver Kiss, one werewolf and one vamp YA novel - which I'm rereading because the author is making an appearance at my bookstore this weekend.

Then, I'm in the mood for a good romance (been reading a lot of other things lately), so I'm either going to read The Book of True Desires, Trouble in High Heels, or Step into Darkness. All are in my library pile. Any suggestions on which one I should go with?

I'm reading Forget-Me-Not by Marliss Melton. It's a great story so far and I'm only a third into it. Next up is Swimming with the Dead by Kathy Brandt.

I finished The Suduction by Nicole Jordan and The Kept Woman by Susan Donovan. I like the story of Damien Sinclair and Vanessa Wyndham and look forward to reading The Passion who's story is about Nicholas Sabine who was introducted in the previous story.
I'm now reading Hot Night by Shannon McKenna. I started it this morning and up to chapter 9. Will have an hour to reading during lunch then after work at home for a couple of hours more.

reading_crystal,

I just love Marliss Melton's books; I've read them all.

I'm laid up with strep throat (my daughter started preschool this year and has been bringing germies home to the rest of the family) - so mostly I've just been lying in bed feeling yucky with nothing to do but read. I started Celeste Bradley's Liars Club series. This first book, The Pretender is really good so far. I like both the hero and the heroine a lot (he's intelligent and sexy, while she's clever and no-nonsense), and the plot is entertaining (but then I'm a sucker for spy stories). I also like that you get introduced to characters who will probably appear in later books in the series. At any rate, it's certainly helping to take my mind off my sore throat!

Predatory Game by Christine Feehan

So far not too bad. I really like the hero. He's wheelchair-bound, but he's still strong and independent, not helpless at all. I find it funny the heroine is staying with him because she thinks he can't take care of himself.

I read No Humans Involved, which I suppose is really urban fantasy, but has a very strong romance element. It was great. In fact, most of the stuff this author writes is great.

Just finished Escapade during class - I knew there was a reason to get ebooks... I thought it was very entertaining. You just don't see many romance novels where the heroine decides to have frog races and medieval tournaments as entertainment for a house party! Very entertaining and very sweet, I'm glad I read this one.

bookbeat - I think I'm hooked on Marliss Melton books now - I loved Forget-Me-Not and have the 2nd one up soon on the tbr.

Thanks for the welcome CC.

So I finished Forget-Me-Not at lunch, and I started Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult yesterday while on the elliptical (needed a hardback) and then this afternoon I have started Swimming with the Dead by Kathy Brandt. Hope to get through these this weekend.

I just finished My Devillish Scotsman by Jen Holling, it was okay, nothing great, the 2nd in her trilogy about Scottish witches and the Highlanders they marry.

Now I'm about to start, Shadows on the Aegean by Suzanne Frank which is the 2nd in the time-travel series about two lovers who meet and are separated, first in ancient Egypt, and next in Atlantis. I loved the first book, Reflections in the Nile and am eager to read this one now.

katybear! I started reading Celeste Bradley after the recommendations from here and fell in love with the Liar's Club and the Royal Four. I just finished The Duke Next Door, second in the Heiress Brides series and it is better than the first.

I also read A Lady's Secret by Jo Beverley this week. What a great book!!! It was so nice to see some of the Mallorans again. The touchstone isn't bringing up the right book. I wasn't sure I was going to like it in the beginning but it wasn't long before I was hooked.

The other one I read this week was The Rakehell's Reform by Elisabeth Fairchild. I was disappointed in the ending. Most of the book was okay.

edit: I just found out that Simply Perfect, the new Mary Balogh is on its way to the library for me! Yippeee!

I'm reading The Bridal Quest by Candace Camp. So far it's very predictable and I'm having trouble staying interested.

28CarolinaCatherine
Apr 5, 2008, 11:45 am

Ana, if it is one of Camp's books published by HQN recently, it is a reissue of one of her very early books. They are rather boring, nothing like her newer releases. You can tell she has really come a long way with her writing skills since the original publications, though.

I just received Desperately Seeking A Duke by Celeste Bradley in the mail, and I am so excited. I have been depressed at not having enough time for reading lately, and I may have to quit work to have more, but I realized I really need that escape. It keeps me sane! LOL

xor and CC: Yall were right on about Celeste Bradley! I'm completely hooked! (and I just love reading series)

I finished up The Pretender and have started The Impostor - I got really interested in Dalton's character in the first book and was glad that his story came next. I'm curious about the other characters too, especially Collis and Ren and wondering how their stories play out over the course of the series. I have books 3 and 5 in the series, but I'm still missing the fourth book and am scrambling frantically to find it so that I can read them all straight through.

And CC, I know exactly what you mean about the reading keeping you sane. Everybody needs some down-time to decompress.

30anamuhandis

CC, I also know what you mean about reading keeping you sane. I told someone recently that for me it's really like a form of meditation, because it completely takes my mind away from day-to-day things. Television doesn't help me relax at all; I keep thinking about other things while I'm watching it, but not so with reading.

I'm reading Shelly Laurenston's The Mane Event now, and it's not doing much for me, I'm afraid.

CC. I started Desperately Seeking a Duke this afternoon. Hope it is as good a To Wed A Scandalous Spy.

Thanks, y'all. I've read two books today and am feeling better already! :)

PM, I loved Desperately Seeking A Duke! I swear, I stood up and clapped after the last page. Bradley can write the sexiest love scenes, without being raunchy, better than anyone. And, we don't have to wait long for the next book in the series. It comes out next month, and the final one the following month! Yippee!

CC

Edited: Apr 6, 2008, 6:49 am

CC, It is even better than that. The Duke Next Door came out this month and the third in the series comes at early next month. So you won't have to wait so long to read all three!

I liked The Duke Next Door even better than Desperately Seeking a Duke. And I can't wait for Sophie's story (and the butler's).

The new Jo Beverley is very good too.

I'm still waiting for the new Mary Balogh. But I bought the Gaelen Foley and discovered I hadn't read the last one (dang covers all sound the same). So I'm reading Derek's story first.

CC, yes, yes! Desperately Seeking a Duke was wonderful. I finished it at 11 last night and loved the ending! I am going out today and get the next in the series!

Holy cow, just got five emails from my library on the holds i have asked for. these came from some of y'alls recommendations and also from the early book reviews of old.
With my husband having back surgery tomorrow, i will have all kinds of time to read them. Here they are in no particular order:
There's no place like here by Cecelia Ahern, The passion by Nicole Jordan, Return to me by Shannon McKenna, Edge of midnight by Shannon McKenna and I finished If his kiss is wicked by Jo Goodman which i really enjoyed!
