LGBT History Icons

In recognition of LGBT History Month (originating in the USA in the 1990s), here's a list of this year's chosen icons with touchstones, for those the LibraryThing system could find.

Reminder: Clicking the links for touchstone bring up author pages.

Susan B. AnthonyW. H. AudenFrank BruniFrédéric Chopin • David Cicilline • Mart Crowley • Ashley Diamond • Alice Dunbar-NelsonCarlos Elizondo • Althea Garrison • R.C. A few of the people on the list surprised me, which I suppose is the big reason why the list each year is important. Celebrities for a long time were made to look straighter in mainstream media than they were or are in actuality.

Question: Are you reading any queer historical or political books this month?

I was trying to cheer myself up about not having access to multiple books on my to-read list that are about queer history by looking up when the more popular of the historical figures in the book are celebrated. That ended up with a reminder that we are currently in LGBT History Month!

Like last year's batch of people, many of the chosen lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender Icons have authored books catalogued here on LibraryThing.
