As part of the Book Wish Foundation's Chad/Darfur project, we are sending ESL books from the Headway series (published by Oxford University Press) to the Bredjing, Treguine, and Gaga refugee camps in Chad. The refugees from Darfur living in these camps (about 60,000 total, 20,000 of them students) view learning English as a "road to freedom," and it is critical to their chance of enrollment in university. Our goal is a total of 70 student’s books, 15 teacher’s books, 70 workbooks, and 30 accompanying CDs in each of the Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, and Upper Intermediate levels of the Headway series.
Oxford University Press has generously offered us the teacher's books for free and the student's books at cost! With the funds we have raised so far, this enables us to meet about 25% of the goal. We have placed the first order with Oxford and arranged shipping to the camps. Updates about the progress of this and future shipments can be found at bookwish.org.
