Ok, so where is the 3rd book by Lorna Freeman? It's called Shadow's Past and although it is listed on some websites, you can't buy it anywhere! I heard the publisher Penguin, is not publishing it in the belief her previous sales were not so great but that is just a rumor (and probably the fault of Penguin for not marketing it well). I LOVED her other two novels, Covenants and The King's Own.
If anyone has heard anything let me know! I saw that a few members claim to 'own' this book but their tags seem to indicate it is more of a wish list than having actually purchased it. There are supposed to be 4 books in the series so whats going on?!?!

I have also not found much look looking into this. I hope she can find another publisher if Penquin will not do it. I've been waiting a lot time too.

I asked Penguin about it and got the following response: The third book in the Lorna Freeman’s Borderlands series is no longer scheduled for publication, and no additional information is available at this time. Should you care to check back periodically, information relating to future publications by this author will be posted on our website as it becomes available.
This is in their like question and answer page.

I wrote an email to Penguin requesting that they print it... *sigh*
I'm not entirely sure what the deal is. It MAY be possible that they could re-release the first two and then the third at some time in the future... or they could totally not publish any more and give up the rights... I hope something is decided someday soon, though. I hate the idea of the third book being finished--but totally unavailable to readers!!!

Can we also turn this thread into a Discussion of the books while we wait to hear if it's going to be continued???
Has anyone else read these books?
What did you think?
Would you recommend them to others--and why? What about them did you like/dislike?
The hero has a lot of secrets come out through the first book--did you find them believable?
Some things in these books follow very typical fantasy themes/tropes, others do not. What did you find surprising and different? What did you think was more cliched?

I have recommended these books on a number of occasions. They are well written, unique, and have fun characters.

I have to agree with #6 - the characters are wonderful. I particularly love Javes with his eye-glass and his bumbling idiot camouflage... And I like the way the enlisted men have this kind of greek chorus of insubordination and insult constantly rumbling away in the background. It's their varied reactions to Rabbit's secrets being revealed that makes what could have been a very clichéd coming of age tale so original and entertaining.
I was hoping that the delay in publication of the third book was a missed deadline. I would far rather wait an extra year (or three or four, if it's PC Hodgell) for a sequel that's as well-written as the first book in the series.
I've read some pretty disappointing third-books-in-the-series this year. And yes, I realise that writers have to eat, but some of the books read more like first drafts than finished works, and if you've just forked out for a hardcover you're entitled to feel a mite aggrieved.

Good news! According to her editor Roc is publishing Lorna Freeman’s next book, SHADOWS PAST, in February 2010. Emma

I think the correct link to the first book should be Covenants: A Borderlands Novel, as opposed to Mr. Robertson's work.
Edit: and the correct link for the new third one is Shadows Past: A Borderlands Novel.
