Category #1
-Finished The Hallowed Hunt, did not start anything else
-Finished A Cottage Wedding, did not start anything else
-Finished The Three Musketeers, ditto
-Finished Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (1 star -_-), Started Death in Holy Orders to replace the audiobook
-Finished A Dry White Season, did not start anything else
-Started / Finished The Taming of the Shrew, finished Four Ways to Forgiveness
-Finished Collected Twilight Stories
-Finished The Birthday of the World
-Finished The Telling
-DNF'd A Master of Djinn and dropped the series. Wasn't pleased by the novellas either and shouldn't force myself to 'finish up' series like this - the author is just going to publish more books and then I'll be trapped.
-Put Ironweed back on the shelf because it's #3 in a series and I don't have the other two (didn't realize).
-Finished The Trojan Women and Other Plays by Euripides
-Started and DNF'd two of the PDK Award winners, started and finished Far from the Light of Heaven by Tade Thompson, returned This Mournable Body to the library. I do want to read it but it scares me.
-Decided I am not going to read Winter's Tale - life is too short.
-Finished Penric's Problems

Good luck with paring down your list!

That's a big list! I imagine it will be satisfying to pare it down though.

Just catching up with your thread and I see you're already making good progress with your first category!

Thank you! 22 left, have to finish This Mournable Body because it's due soon but putting it off. Suspect it'll be a difficult read, emotionally.

Finished some but am in a major reading rut for me. Don't think refreshing my choices will help - I don't think it has anything to do with the books themselves, more so other life stuff.
(Authors whose books or names start with D)
Backlist author:
Death and the King's Horseman by Wole Soyinka. Following the death of the king, the King's Horseman is required to commit ritual suicide. Think this defies simplistic interpretation of the sort that I'm capable of coming up with. Brain kinda blanks. Would love to be part of a discussion group that reads this.
Lengthy TBR:
Nightwood by Djuna Barnes. I'd first checked this out of a library 10+ years ago, so it's a very lengthy TBR. Let myself be so overly intimidated by it I returned it without reading, but it wasn't nearly as difficult to follow as I expected. Yet again, my brain also kinda blanks. I've been trying to get away from writing about books as good/bad, but it's likely that if I want to have anything else to say I need to take notes.
Global Literature:
Slave Song by David Dabydeen. Graphic poem songs related the brutality of life as a slave on a sugar cane plantation. The poems are followed by author commentary explaining their meaning + translations. The author finishes their postscript by saying, "Finally, the apparatus of notes and translations was an attempt to be poet, editor and translator, to resist the commerce of consuming 'third-world' produce. But I was young and idealistic and silly then. After twenty-one years of meagre royalties, I'm ripe for exploitation, so please buy this book." Ouch.

Global Literature:
Lives and Legends of the Georgian Saints (selected and translated from the original texts) by David M. Lang. Some of the things I thought were interesting were the prominence of female 'characters' (based on historical people) w/ political importance and strong senses of morality, the sense of change and overhaul of ideas that seems to be going on, and how many different cities / places are name-dropped (Jerusalem, Baghdad, Constantinople, Tbilisi, Abkhazia, Mount Olympus, etc.).

Struggling again with starting too many books because everything looks interesting then getting choice paralysis.
(mostly notes to myself)
Did a "currently reading" reformat. The stuff I'm reading now or have checked out falls into five categories: Old Stuff, Anthologies, Owned Books, Series Books, or Global Literature. I think I'm going to turn away for a bit from reading SFF award winners - I have plenty of SFF in series I've already started and I've been having bad luck with SFF recently.
Old stuff is a particularly difficult category for me because I want to read certain stuff before other stuff, but also want to read everything at once and don't want to wait. So I start stuff then hold off on it because I haven't finished a work that's influenced it. Made an ordered list.
#1. Finish the Old Testament and Anglo-Saxon Poetry. Do not start the New Testament.
#2. Finish Paradiso. Do not start Vita Nuova.
#3. Finish Orestes and other Plays. Do not start anything by Aristophanes.
#4. Finish Three Kingdoms
... Then move on to Journey to the West, The Scholars and the new translation of Jin Ping Mei before starting the New Testament or any more Classical / European stuff.
Anthologies. Continue with The Norton Anthology of World Literature. Return the other anthologies to the library.
Owned Books. Not too much in this category that isn't in other categories, but 1 book is enough. Ranking this one because I'm a decent chunk into #1.
#1. Moll Flanders
#2. Complete Novels of Jean Rhys (since finished)
Series. Bunch of stuff I checked out from the library.
Tales from Watership Down, The Prince and the Pilgrim, EEG (since finished), A God in Ruins, Time and the Gods (since finished), The Hidden Palace (DNF), The Road Back (since finished), The Winged Histories (DNF), Saint Leibowitz and the Wild Horse Woman (since finished)
Global Literature. Ranking this one because I'm further into certain books than others.
#1. The Slynx (since finished)
#2. Selected Poems by Maria Tsvetayeva
#3. Kamouraska (since finished)
-----
So to summarize that makes my currently reading:
Old Stuff: Paradiso / Anglo-Saxon Poetry (both since finished)
Anthologies: The Norton Anthology of World Literature
Owned Books: -
Series: EEG (since finished)
Global: The Slynx (since finished)
-----
Finished the actual Old Testament, still want to read the appendices but want a break from it.
Finished Tales from Watership Down, decided to read Moll Flanders next, then EEG.
Read 2/3 of Moll Flanders, remembered I started EEG because it was a series book (shifted it to the series category), decided to read some of The Slynx
Got a copy of the Old Testament from a library, decided to read Selected Poems by Marina Tsvetayeva instead of The Big Green Tent, decided not to read Diary of a Syrian Gentleman right now.
Finished Moll Flanders, want to finish some stuff in other categories before I start more Owned Books.
Finished the Old Testament. Ha. That was a lot of difficult reading. Not sure if I want to move onto Paradiso today or reward myself by reading a lighter work. EEG (series) is in a difficult place because it's taking up the series slot while being the opposite of light reading - I'm not sure if I'll get to it any time soon. I don't want to go for a walk because it's raining.
Started Selected Poetry by Maria Tsvetayeva but wasn't concentrating on it very well so read The Prince and the Pilgrim by Mary Stewart instead. Think I'm going to finish the poetry then finish EEG since it's taking up the series spot.
Finished the poetry - want to give EEG a good 30m and see if I can handle it today. Think I'm making good progress. Want to get down to 1 book in each category except series. For that goal I only need to read 2 more canonical books and 1 more global literature books.
Finished Orestes and Other Plays - which I wasn't planning on starting but had to catch up to my buddy reader

Haven't posted in this is a while but my currently reading book list is out of control. Sorry aware this probably isn't very interesting to read but typing it out helps me organize my thoughts and all my books.
Trying to break this into categories where I'm likely to just start another book if I finish what I'm reading. For example, if I finish the 'audiobook' category I'm going to immediately start another audiobook. Same for ebooks and paper books. If I finish a 'brick' I'll 'reward' myself by starting another brick.

-Changed my mind about what the audiobook read will be - think I want to continue w/ a cozy mystery series I'm reading in the audiobook slot and read Cherryh novels in paper form.
-Read a good chunk of North and South
-Returned some library books and checked out Trieste
-Checked out Voyager in Night, Kamouraska, and Four Plays by Ben Jonson
-Finished High Deryni, I read all the short light ones and let the heavy long ones sit lol. That is fine. Also checked out Voyager in Night so still 17 currently-reading I think.
-Read a good chunk of the Goosebumps book, started a cozy mystery as an audiobook
