Genrification?

Is anybody out there moving to genrify their church library? Right now most of our books are organized by Dewey, but I've begun making more user-friendly groupings of the books for adults and have 90% of the children's books in tagged and tubbed by genre.
About 3000 books in the collection.

I'd love to know what others are doing with genrification in their church libraries.

I had to chuckle when I saw your question.

I am in the process of UN-genrifying our church library, and trying to "Dewey" them all. (I will separate fiction by author last name, but all non-fiction will be by Dewey order.)

We have about 2300 items, and just found it hard. Patrons and library volunteers as well were having a hard time locating books on a regular basis. I'm not positive genrification was the problem, but we came to the conclusion that it certainly wasn't helping.

I wish you far better success with your attempt!

Our church library has about 3000 books. They are arranged by general Dewey numbers (000, 100, 200, 210, 220, 230,...290, 300, 400, 500, etc. Then FIC, BIOG, J-FIC, YA-FIC, etc.
We have just recently genrefied commonly used topics: Grief & Loss, Prayer collections, LGBTQIA+, Year-long Devotionals, J-Graphic novels, Graphic nonfiction, Labyrinths, etc. I used a P-Touch label maker to to make special labels for the genrefied collections.
Almost the entire collection of children's large format picture books (fiction and nonfiction) is sorted into bins by theme, including: Families, Tough Times, Prayers & Praying, Old Testament & Creation Stories, All KInds of People, Christmas Traditions, Spring Holidays, etc. This has been especially popular with the church school teachers as they can easily find the books they need. Each book has a number on the cover that matches the number on the bin.

I love how your library catalog features some of those top-categories on the home page! We are looking into genre-fying our children's library this year. Now that it's a few years later, how are you liking your categories? Any advice?

We are just up the road in Beaverton, so I hope I can come see your collection in person sometime!
