I've started collecting the books. :)

I enjoyed them when I was a pre-teen/teeanger -- and although, I can't say that these books are superb literature -- they ARE charming -- so I've started to collect them. Just a few months ago, it seems, these books were out of stock (I went into a bookstore to ask about ordering them) -- but it looks like they're making a come back (they're reprinting the series). That's pretty cool. Though, I'll always be more interested in the first editions.

*gags* I'm sorry, but I can't stand the reprints that they are doing. I saw the "new" Sweet Valley High look not too long ago in a bookstore and I literally almost cried. That is NOT Jessica and Elizabeth! That is NOT the right look.... Soooo much is wrong with the reprints, and not just the SVH series reprints either.

But anyways! I started re-collecting not too long ago as well! As I've mentioned awhile ago in a different thread in this group, most of my SV books were destroyed in a car crash (no one got hurt, just the books). I joined BookMooch about 8 months ago, and I've slowly started building up my SV collection again. It's so exciting! But I am being very careful that I only get the older editions.

Do you know whether they're changing the actual text for the reprints?

I went and looked at the new covers on Amazon, and I really don't think they're that bad (well, other than the colours of the first one). I'm just glad they're being reprinted at all.

They are actually doing some "updating" - Elizabeth is a blogger now (gag). And, most disgustingly, they have actually made them skinnier - instead of a "perfect size six," the twins are now a "perfect size four." Its pretty horrifying.

Blech, I hate updating. And the fact that they've changed from a size 6 to a size 4 is a really sad reflection on society.

I agree, Zoe, especially considering the average size is much higher than that.

5: Seriously? GAH!! Now I hate the reprints even more then I already did!! The whole "updating" is the reason I refuse to buy most of the newer Nancy Drew books (come on, she carries a cell phone everywhere!), and now they are doing it to Sweet Valley?! *whines*
And I really liked the whole "perfect size six" thing, because I'm young enough that, by the time I started reading SVH, size six wasn't considered "perfect", so to read that was very refreshing.

On the bright side, it makes the older books all the more valuable. :)

I collected them until recently...now they're taking over my house!! If anyone in the UK is looking for them, feel free to contact me if you'd like me to send mine for postage costs(the ones I feel I can part with!)

As for the reprints, I want to read them out of curiosity, but I don't think it's possible to buy them over here, just ones with a new cover. It will never be thhe same though!!
