Hi petersfamily,
My main concern is a different issue. My concern and that of authors generally is that our meagre royalties are adequate and protected from discounting.

I think what authors need to work into their contract is a different mentality than we have for years.
LARGE advance, possible no residual checks due to not making enough to cover the advance.
This pattern is bad. Okay, sure I got a 100K check from the publisher for my awesome book. Then my sales total only 25K gross within the time of the copyright contract... No way am i making back the advance.
Better Concept: SMALL advance, then percentage of the GROSS sales of the book.
What does this do? Consider that the small advance could be at most 3K. Okay, now if we figure that we sell 40K for the gross sales of the books. After factoring out advance, and asking for 10% of the gross, we are looking at a residual check of 1K. Additional money! If you are in writing for the money, this is what you want!
Though this is just my strange $0.02(American)
