Just started Diablo Mesa the third in the Nora Kelly/Corrie Swanson series of quasi-FBI procedural thrillers. So far, so good.

Just started State of Terror from Hilary Clinton & Louise Penny. Wasn't sure about this, but Louise Penny is such a good writer. So far really enjoying.

>4 bobbyl: I liked that one a lot.

I just read When the Stars Go Dark, a slightly melodramatic but well done thriller.

Oooh, please tell us once you finish with the bloodbath, lol. What did you think?

Finished In the Name of Truth by Viveca Sten. Didn't like it as much as the last one.

>8 Bookmarque: I gasped out loud when Dinah Brand was killed! Was not expecting that one.

Edited because I posted to the wrong group. I am reading The Stranger Diaries.

Halfway through Magpie Lane by Lucy Atkins. Had a little break as I left my mini IPod in a hotel in Montreal on an unexpected 24 h layover/missed connection and had to wait for the hotel to ship it to me. Surprisingly only took a couple days. Canada Post > Air Canada

>4 bobbyl: Hey Bobby, I'm reading State of Terror too and am having a good giggle at the mischievous comedy - fast-paced and easy to read!

Spent the past day or so tearing through The Madness of Crowds, by Louise Penny. Normally I stay one book behind on the Three Pines series so I always have one in reserve, but I needed a guaranteed good read to kick myself out of a slump.

The Investigator by John Sandford - the first of what he hopes will be 4 or 5 Letty Davenport novels. So far pretty good, she is methodical like Lucas, but smart enough to know what she doesn’t know.

Currently in crime: back to noir with Farewell, My Lovely, by Raymond Chandler. I read the audio back in 2009 but have no recollection of the plot, so this is basically like reading the book for the first time.

Next to me, ready to go: The Consequences of Fear by Jacqueline Winspear. It's high time I caught up with Maisie.

>19 bobbyl: I finished it yesterday and it wasn't bad, but still could have been better. Check it out though, especially if you have always liked Letty.

>20 bobbyl: I definitely agree on the friendship - it gave good grounding to the story.

I'm on to The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. I was surprised I hadn't read it yet... one of those books I've been meaning to read for a long time.

I finished Turning Angel by Greg Iles, the second book in Iles' Penn Cage mystery series. I found the storyline in this book a lot less plausible than in the series' first entry, The Quiet Game, but all in all Turning Angel was entertaining enough that I'll eventually be continuing with the series.

Started Death at the Château Bremont, by M. L. Longworth. Fun to compare the series "Murder in Provence", starring Roger Allam, to the source material.

Am about 100 pages into Sundial by Catriona Ward - it's as weird and creepy as anything by her.

Recently finished The Private Sector by Joseph Hone. This is the first of a short series of espionage novels featuring Peter Marlow. Hone was a contemporary of Deighton and le Carre and his writing is in the same vein.

Just stumbled onto a copy of Penhallow at our local Dollar Tree. Georgette Heyer was always on my "mom-approved" romance list when I was transitioning into adult lit, but I wasn't aware she wrote mysteries.

I was having trouble with Cloud Cuckoo Land (which I realize is not a mystery), so I dropped back to a comfort re-read of One Was a Soldier. Julia's series is my favorite. I'm tempted to just zip through re-reads of the remaining ones, but I'm holding them in reserve for now.

Sundial was pretty excellent so I've moved on to another canted little tale that came from following a thread of recommendations based on Sundial - Broken River by J. Robert Lennon. So far I like it except for the dad character who is an ass.
