The Qur’an (Koran) 2008
The Folio Society edition of The Qur’an is a beautifully presented fine edition bound in heavy white cloth that is embossed and blocked with a blue and gilt pattern on the cover and spine. The page tops are gilded and there is a dark blue page marker ribbon. The slipcase is an unadorned dark blue as are the endpapers..
There is an unattributed two page forward and a 17 page interpretive introduction by Marmaduke Pickthall. At the back of the book is a list of the surahs and their titles. There are six bound in double page images taken from Sultan Baybar’s Qur’an that was calligraphically produced in 1304 and is now in the British Library. It is one of the most magnificent ancient Qur’ans with all the text in gold. The decorated pages were done by Abu Bakr (Sandal). As befitting the holy book of Islam, there are no other illustrations.
The volume has xxvii + 515 pages and in the slipcase measures 26.9x20.6cm.
