Local Updates

LibraryThing Local has been updated to use our ever-evolving LT2 platform.

That means that the pages will load faster and should show better performance overall. They will also have better accessibility features and get all of the other enhancements that other LT2 pages get (custom font selection, desktop view, better view on mobile devices, etc.).

Within this update we have decided to do away with the concept of Events for Local venues. This was being discussed in Talk already. The short story is that they were no longer being updated or used and they were a drag on resources.

This update to Local is made up of thousands of changes to code so the chance that Lucy and I did all of this without a single error is....ahem...not a zero number. So we'll do our best to fix whatever pops up as quickly as possible.

When I go to my”local” page, I still see “Local Events” and “no events”. And on venue pages, there is still the possibility to “add an event” and a space for a listing of “upcoming events”.

Shouldn’t those all be removed?

(I can see keeping “Past Events” as an historical record.)

Okay, that would explain it!

Ok. Everything should be back in working order with the new updates. Sorry about that. We had a codebase issue that we had to work through and needed to revert the changes to do so.

So it seems old, defunct listings are still appearing. I can't figure out a way not to see them or remove them. Any clues?

Ah. If you have "All" selected then it will, in fact, show you ALL venues (even defunct venues). Select "Custom" and you can "Edit" the types of venues shown (even selecting them all will filter out defunct venues). I didn't notice this and we should change how this works, giving an option to show defunct or not in the Edit preferences popup.

Ok it seems better although a venue I marked as defunct a few minutes ago lost that appellation and I had to redo it. When I did it disappeared from my custom list. Will keep an eye on it. Thanks!
