Reference Only Books

How do I remove the ability to check out or put on hold for a specific book? There are some that I would like to classify as Reference Only and not allow them to be checked out.

You can add a custom lending status (a status that marks that item as unavailable) to any books you need, for "Reference Only" or any other custom status. Do this from the "Other" options on the Check in/out page (https://www.librarycat.org/admin/checkinout) when you're marking those records! Hope this helps.

I'm finding that this didn't work for me- the interface still allows the option for a patron to self-checkout any of our reference materials even though I've used the screen suggested to mark them all as "Reference- Non-circulating" and change their status to unavailable. What to do?

>3 library_graceharbor.: Can you give a couple examples for the developers to check on?

>3 library_graceharbor.: Looking at your "Non-Circulating" status on a Detail page, the status was showing up in green which indicates the status was saved to keep the item as available (or lending status unchanged). I checked that status on our end and indeed the status was keeping the item as available for loan. I've fixed that status to mark the item as unavailable for loan, so you should be all set now.

Is there a way to make one collection non-circulating rather than changing the status on each item individually?

Not at this time, unless you were to make your default lending status be one that marks items as unavailable. That is on our list of requested features and we'll be sure to announce any changes on this front! Thanks for your patience.

I have gone into checkin/out in the admin module, changed the new status to Other, and also in the drop down menu to "other" and written in the space Reference - Inhouse use only, and changed the drop down to mark as unavailable and saved the changes. Yet when I search the catalogue, the Place hold button still appears in the record. What is the problem? And How can I hide the place hold button on these items that cannot circulate?

>8 Jahsena: Thanks for the note! I did some digging and it looks like your "Reference - Inhouse use only" status was set to mark items as available for loan, rather than as unavailable. I fixed this for you, if you want to have another look at those items with that status?

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!
