October 30th

I met briefly with Nancy Gift, Sustainability professor at Berea College.

She listed several resource groups we might want to connect with:

Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light (Louisville) - https://www.kentuckyipl.org/

Sierra Club (Lexington) - https://www.sierraclub.org/kentucky You may see they are having their annual meeting Nov. 11 - 13th at General Butler State Resort. The topic is regenerative, organic agriculture. Though it's officially too late to register, I may try to attend the Saturday events. Anyone else interested? $35 registration.

Solar Advocacy - searched this term and found multiple organizations. Have not had time to dig further.

Kentuckians for the Commonwealth - I've tried contacting this group on another issue and found the local representative not quite organized. Will try this again later.

Nancy mentioned the college Climate Action Plan, which is in draft form, to avoid needing the Board of Trustees to act on it in a budgetary way. She mentioned the hydroelectric plant and selling the forests carbon credits in California. The college website mentions these as well, but nothing else. I will try to get hands on an actual copy of the document. - Global climate change requires bold action - Global climate change requires bold action - https://www.berea.edu/president/blog/global-climate-change-requires-bold-action/

She is willing to send notice of our meetings by email to all students. A campus-wide email notice is a lot trickier, I guess. That makes sense, not wanting to clog the system with outside notices. She did suggest printing meeting notices and posting them in the restrooms of Science and Agriculture buildings to try and catch attention of teaching staff. I did not manage to do either of these things for this meeting.

Nancy sounded willing to be a speaker at a future meeting, but would want considerable (2 months) heads up. We may want to begin creation a calendar of activities. We did not talk about a particular subject. Here is her faculty page: https://www.berea.edu/sens/faculty-and-staff/dr-nancy-gift/

She also mentioned this group as a resource that she has used: AASHE, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education
https://www.aashe.org/

In other business, I pulled a dormant group that I had created for the MOV group several years ago. It's on LibraryThing, a book cataloging site that also devotes plenty of room for talk groups devoted to any topic you can imagine. It's where I spend my online time instead of FaceBook and such. Here's the group page: https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/18306/Climate-Change-Caf%C3%A9

You can read any of the threads without being a member of the site, but would need to join (free and easy) in order to post. LMK if you think this would be a good way to communicate beyond emails and such.

Sorry I am not able to be at the meeting today. See you in two weeks, I hope.
