I just created the new list for the 2023 TOB. Come on over and rank your favorites! https://www.librarything.com/list/44310/2023-Tournament-of-Books

I'm loving Babel so far. It hits all the sweet spots for me in terms of themes, characters, and story, so I find it hard to envision liking another book more this year. How about you?

Wow! I've got some reading to do! Usually I've read one or two on the list & have another one or two on my TBR pile. This year none, none at all! A few are on my wishlist, though, so this is the perfect excuse to order them, which I just did. On their way to me now are:

The Rabbit Hutch by Tess Gunty
The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka
An Island by Karen Jennings
Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin

Thanks so much for starting the conversation, >1 zhejw:

Echoing thanks for the list! I don't see An Island on it...

>3 McDirk: Just added An Island. You can add books by clicking on the tab at the top right of your screen on the list page.

>1 zhejw: Thanks for making the list. I've just started Babel myself and am finding it completely engrossing.

>4 susanbooks: Thanks for catching that and adding it. I read it last week. A bit bleak for my taste! I'm following it up with 2 A.M. and find they pair together nicely.

>5 mathgirl40: Isn't it! I had to take a break from reading it before bed, as the themes were making it hard to sleep. I turned to Mercury Pictures and love that too. The quality of Marra's prose and characterization might elevate it over Babel for me.

I gave up on Manhunt. It had good elements & it was great seeing trans experiences so central to a narrative, but it never transcended the genre for me.

I've started The Rabbit Hutch & am liking it so far.
