These will keep me going for a while.

Friday afternoon update
Books read from: Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature by Linda Lear. Exit Strategy by Martha Wells. I started Down From the Mountain: The Life and Death of a Grizzly Bear by Bryce Andrews. I am listening to The Winners by Fredrik Backman.
Books finished in this weekend's Readathon:
Book Thoughts: I have a busy weekend but I need to get a book done for my next bookclub meeting so will have to devote some time to that. I started Down from the Mountain yesterday during lunch and it is just riveting. The author is a good writer. He is making me feel like I am there with him trying to make that bear proof fence. I got started on the Murderbot Diaries and decided that they were fun, so I am reading them rather than my book for my book club meeting that is coming up.
Non Book Activities: I am going to my knitting class tomorrow, so I will spend the weekend knitting and reading.
Time reading: .5 hours
Time posting:
Food: Jack's bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit and some left over hummus for lunch.
Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 296
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 815.5 hours since I started doing the weekend Read-A-Thon back in April of 2020.

I'm going to give it a try this weekend. It's supposed to be rainy for much of the weekend, so maybe I can get some good reading accomplished.
13susanna.fraser
I bounced off the first two books I started today, but then read A Dead Djinn in Cairo, which hit the spot by being both short and engaging.

Book Thoughts: I am about to finish listening to The Winners and since I will be traveling tomorrow to attend my knitting class I decided on starting Pink Suit. My LT notes say it is on the bookshelves in my office. I went to those shelves to get it and low-and-behold I can't find it. I guess that means that I will have to decide on another book to listen to on the way to finish my socks with the knitting ladies.
Non Book Activities: Time to finish my socks. Will be knitting and drinking tea tomorrow.
Time reading: .5 hours
Time posting:
Food: Chinese food with my friends tonight.

Saturday morning
Books:
The One and Only Ivan and
Ten Thousand Stitches
I'm hoping to finish one or both today.
Dinner last night - Cheese/bacon/tomato frittata and garden salad with lemon tahini dressing. I cooked!
Other activity:
I attempted a bike ride but the bike provided where I'm staying is too big so I will rent one tomorrow (once it stops raining.)
Watched several episodes of You, Netflix thriller based on books by Carolina Kepnes.
Partly sunny at the moment, more rain expected. 63 F. (16 C.) at 10am in Florida.

Saturday afternoon update:
Books read from: The Silver Pigs, For Her Own Good
Books finished:
Time reading: ?
Time posting: ?
Snacks: lunch was chicken breast, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, and tangerine
Thoughts: I can't wait for spring!
Non-book activities: Last night I was too tired to read so I watched the rest of Season 1 of The Mysterious Benedict Society. This morning I was able to read some while I waited for some work to be done on my car, but the owner talked almost constantly on the phone or to the other people in the waiting room so it was hard to concentrate. This afternoon I had a long nap and then took a long walk with the dog. I just finished baking pumpkin muffins.

Saturday night update
Books read from: Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature by Linda Lear. Exit Strategy by Martha Wells. I started Down From the Mountain: The Life and Death of a Grizzly Bear by Bryce Andrews. I finished listening to The Winners by Fredrik Backman, and started listening to Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
Books finished in this weekend's Readathon: The Winners by Fredrik Backman
Book Thoughts: I LOVED The Winners by Fredrik Backman. This book is the way to finish a trilogy. Good and bad things happen to people and this ending does all that. Great stuff. There will be more Backman books in my future. I went to the library before I left town and checked out 4 books. I have about 8 books I need to get read this month and that isn't going to happen, but I keep agreeing to read and comment on books here on LT and in real life.
Non Book Activities: Spent most of the day ripping out and then reknitting the shank on my sock. I had a great time with the ladies and drank some interesting tea. None of the teas were outstanding this time, but they were different. Bought some yarn - just when I am trying to lessen the load of yarn in my house. In the next few weeks I am going to really try to finish up some of my projects. I really like that yarn store and the people who frequent The Taming of the Ewe.
Time reading: 4 hours of listening time in the car and no reading time so far today. I am counting the listening time because I love listening to my books in the car.
Time posting:
Food: A nice deli sandwich from the Harp and Crown. An Irish Pub in Gadsden. Not really Irish, but good pub food.
Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 297
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 820 hours since I started doing the weekend Read-A-Thon back in April of 2020.

Books read from: Orfeo
Books finished:
Time reading: ?
Time posting: ?
Snacks: pumpkin pecan muffins and tea
Thoughts: I wasn't sure how much I would like Orfeo based on the jacket description, but I decided to give it a try since Powers is this month's author for the American Authors challenge. At 100+ pages in, I am happy to say that I'm enjoying it immensely. It's not a book I would have picked up if not for the challenge. That's why I love the challenges!
Non-book activities: more baking, sleep, catching up on threads

Books finished in this weekend's Readathon: The Winners by Fredrik Backman. Exit Strategy by Martha Wells.
Book Thoughts: I am really liking Down From the Mountain. This is bone deep understanding of rural areas and the people who live in them, plus the hard economic life of those involved in agriculture and a compassion for the wild creatures caught in the expanding urban areas of what was wild country, is unexpected. This is a deeply engrossing book, that examines our encounters with wildlife from a different perspective. Add to this the fact that Andrews is a good writer and it makes for thought provoking reading.
My real life book-club met this afternoon and we talked about another retelling of the Illiad. We had a good discussion, but one of our number was missing and the discussion wasn't as good as it has been in the past. Maybe we are done with reading different versions of retellings of the Iliad and the Odyssey.
Non Book Activities: I am getting ready to for my PBS marathon tonight, but first I have to work with a new student and do some training for her. Then home to knit and watch PBS. I am not going to watch that silly football game. I might have watched it because KC is in it, but since it is on that evil network, I am boycotting it. 12 work days left until I am retired.

Here's my activity for the readathon weekend. Unfortunately I didn't get as much reading in as I had hoped, but it was a good start on my first try.
Books read from: The Chicago Cubs: Story of a Curse, Fly the W: 2016 World Champions
Books finished: The Chicago Cubs: Story of a Curse
Snacks: Cheetos, popcorn, pretzel chips/potato chips and dip
Non-book activities:
Saturday: The rain held off early so we took a walk in the morning. Coincidentally, given what I was reading, MLB Network reran their documentary "Joy in Wrigleyville" Saturday night, followed by Games 6 and 7 of the 2016 World Series. I watched the documentary and the first part of Game 6. The rest of the games were on too late to stay up and watch them all.
Sunday: Church in the morning. Did some chores, primarily vacuuming. We took an unexpectedly long lunch, which cut into my planned reading time. We had the Super Bowl on during dinner, but didn't pay close attention. Also watched All Creatures Great and Small on PBS.
