Should they have found out Janet Powell was Amy’s sister? How well do you think they have done in investigating these crimes?

I feel since Janet's letter was so core to the release Chris her background should have been researched in more detail. Like all things in life the investigation could have been conducted better,
but so many suspects so many plots they did the best they could.

Wasn’t that a surprise?
(I’d forgotten who Mrs Janet Powell was and had to look up Eadie’s character list - Thank you, Eadie, 🙂.)
I’m not certain how far the police would dig into someone’s background, under such circumstances. Would they have dug far enough to spot her familial connections? I’m not convinced they would see the need. I may be wrong.

I think they would have looked into Mrs. Powell a little more deeply since she was going to be the alibi which will cause Hudson's release as well as a significant check for wrongful imprisonment.
I think the police overall were failing this whole book - if there hadn't been some random connections, I don't know how things would have been solved.
