Should Bosch have alerted Mittel through the note and asking about Conklin? What do you think he hoped to achieve?

H is trying to stir up the sediments, see what might come to the surface. Unfortunately, I think Mittel is a dangerous man, and H may have stirred up more than he bargained for.

He stirred them up, which might help, but blow warned them that someone is looking into it which will put them more on their guard.

I think he did it so Mittel will get nervous and hopefully do something that will give Harry clues to follow. It will be difficult to close the case with just the old evidence. Harry is putting himself in danger, but it may be the best way he can move forward with his investigation.
