Were you surprised to find out Jazz was a ‘killer’? Any thoughts on her following this?

I knew she had a secret so that must be it. I think she was in an abusive relationship that took bad turn. When we met her we could tell she'd been badly hurt in some way.

Not really surprised. I thought it strange when she asked Harry about using his gun on anyone.
I think the incident in her past has affected her badly - hence her paintings. I don’t see her as a bad person, just troubled. Maybe Harry can do her some good.

Not surprised. Knew she had past issues because of her questions of "did you ever kill anyone" and her self portrait of the Scream.

Not surprised based on her secrets. I didn’t care much for her so if this keeps things from moving forward, I’m okay with that.

>3 Sergeirocks: I agree that she seems troubled rather than bad, but two troubled souls together are not a good combination and I think those of us who had doubts about this relationship were right.

This was a surprise but not that much of one when you reflected on her comments to Harry. Given what she said it felt like she could have killed a partner. Domestic violence?

Not surprised. I thought perhaps it was something she was provoked to do for self defense.

That was a zinger, and it made me wonder for a minute if she was somehow involved or hired by Mittel. But a survivor of domestic violence seems much more likely. Especially in 1995, before the OJ case brought domestic violence to the forefront of people's awareness.

>10 threadnsong: great observation! I hadn’t connected that this was before the OJ case and that domestic violence was thought of quite differently

>11 bluebird_: Thank you! And (of course!) after I posted this, I remembered that 1995 was the year of the infamous trial, but even so, domestic violence was thought of quite differently during the time of this book's events.
