Any initial thoughts why Conklin might have suddenly dropped out of politics?

Not until he explained it to Harry. I thought it was possible he was being blackmailed by someone to drop out.

No. And I couldn’t imagine why Mittel would allow Conklin to do so.

I had none.

I think he was more interested in getting married to Marjorie.

It did seem a strange thing to do and a surprise, and couldn’t put my finger on why.

At the time it was mentioned, I thought he dropped out and went into pro-bono because of guilt over Marjorie’s death. I wasn’t sure what brought it on at that specific time, but that was my feeling.

Nope, no idea whatsoever. I'm thinking that someone (Mittel?) had an event or even Marjorie's death hanging over him.
