Any thoughts about chapter 11 and the girl who is the subject of the chapter?

She missed her mom but her mom had died. She used to lay out her clothes at the bottom of the bed but she didn't like the clothes her mum laid out. Her mum then cut up all her clothes that she liked. Her mum had won and she put the clothes on that her mum laid out for her. A lesson to be learned.

Relates to the prologue with more information.

I wondered whether this might even be a boy? Forced to wear a gym slip would be an even bigger humiliation for a boy. The mother cut up the child’s ‘clothes’ - not specifically ‘dresses’, as I’d have expected it to say.
But as I’ve said previously, I’m becoming a more sceptical reader, perhaps I read too much into things?

I’ve just read the prologue again, and it IS a little girl! ☺️

If she was involved in her mother’s death you can see why with this emotional abuse.

What a monster that woman must have been. If the child killed the mother I'm more sympathetic now.

>9 Olivermagnus: That poor child definitely suffered mental/emotional abuse. The mother was indeed a monster.

This section makes me reconsider my initial thought that she did not kill her mum. I’m still not convinced, but with being abused, it becomes more of a possibility.
