Great article, and what a brave decision to turn down what might have been a lucrative, career-making offer. Sometimes in life there comes the privilege of being able to make the right decision instead of the convenient decision, and I don't think she'll regret it. Hopefully the folks in power at Scholastic read her responding letter in full and at least pondered it.

Somehow it seems even more egregious than banning a book, to try to choke the message off at its source by attempting to induce the author to agree to censorship. I really admire the author for her principled decision not to agree.

I also bought a copy for myself (it's an outstanding book so I'm quite happy to own it) and requested that my local library purchase it as well.
