‘You always made my friends leave, Mummy, and now I must do the same.’ What did you think was meant by this line at the end of Chapter 19?

I found this a bit cryptic.

maybe these are the killers "friends" by having been kidnapped and then killed?

I wasn’t sure if she was going to leave home…or was going to drive away her Mum’s friends.

I think she was punishing her mum by leaving her too.

Very hard to work out exactly what this meant.

I'm still clueless.

I am taking the statement at face value. The mother made the friends leave, how she did this is unexplained at this time and now the character, whoever she/he is is leaving.
