Joplin Meet Up Discussion

Roni has suggested that we change the dates of our annual (10 years plus!) meet up in Joplin be changed from late November-early December to some time in September. Please chime in with thoughts, dates, etc! All points-of-view are welcome in this democracy :)

I'm here. Thanks for the invite, Stasia. Two factors. One is that if I'm doing craft show, that time slot between thanksgiving and Christmas is really busy. The other is that the weather is so unpredictable for a long solo drive by then. Really, any time before that works better for me, but I'm the newcomer, so low man on the totem pole. Thanksgiving week is out for family reasons.

September through mid-November, any time as long as I know in advance. I hate to disrupt a long tradition, but I would really like to come.

Thanks for chiming in Roni! I have also sent invites to Terri, Donna, and Sandy, so hopefully they will have some input too.

Since I live in Texas, weather is not such a big deal for me unless there is snow around Joplin. Since I am also retired, the dates do not matter so much either.

It depends on when. It really doesn't matter to me, unless it conflicts with something I already have planned.

So, could we agree on some time in September then, and go from there?

Catey is thinking of coming to Joplin with me this year, but she would need the meet up to be earlier in September rather than later. Anyone have any preferred dates?

At this point in time, any time in September or October is good for me.

Small Glitch: I've taken a part time job & I work on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. A Friday or Monday would work best for me...or the weekend too.

Thank you, Stasia, for remembering me and inviting me to come by. I have so many fond memories of our meetups in Joplin! I would say the earlier time frame also works well for me, largely due to the unpredictability of November weather, so I'll be following updates to see where things land. I don't have any standing restrictions on days of the week or anything, so I'm open to whatever works best for everyone else.

>8 tloeffler: Mondays are out - the shop is not open on Mondays at all, which was the original reason our meet ups were on Tuesdays.

>9 rosalita: Thank you for stopping by, Julia. We would love to see you again. I know that the weather was a huge issue for you and hopefully this change would make the trip more manageable for you!

So I guess it all comes down to how people feel about meeting up on Fridays. I would propose that we move (at least this year's) meet up to the Friday of Labor Day week in September to see how that works for everyone. Any input, thoughts, etc are appreciated!

Catey informed me today that she will be unable to make a meet up in September no matter when it is because the bosses at her shop have changed the schedule. I am still proposing that we meet up the Friday of Labor Day week. Please chime in as it is only about 6 weeks away and we need to make some kind of decision!

Thank you!

My September has really filled up since the last activity here. I am going to Chicago in the middle of the month to visit friends (planning a meet-up with Joe and Mark!), Kansas Native Plant Society is in Salina the weekend after I get back, and having my irrigation system re-configured the last week of the month. October is wide open. I had always mentioned October as an option as well.

If by Friday of Labor Day week you mean the 8th, I can't do that--will be in KC ready to catch the train to Chicago the next morning. Labor Day weekend and the 18th and 19th are the only times open for me at this point in September.

October is fine with me as well, Roni. Since I am retired and have no social life to speak of and never go anywhere, I am pretty well able to travel at will, lol.

How does everyone feel about the week of October 15th??

I can do that week. I'd have to move something if it were Wednesday, but if we do a Friday so Terri can come, that would work just fine.

>15 ronincats: OK, then I propose that we have the meet up October 20th. Hopefully everyone who is interested can make that day.

October 20 works for me. I probably won't stay over this year, though--I'll come in the morning & leave after lunch.

I'll be at the bookstore. Still debating about leaving from work Thursday and getting there really late, or getting up at some ungodly hour of the morning and leaving then.

I'll be driving down from Kansas City, where I'll be spending the night before and that night with my college roomie Vickie--who will be coming with me! Please post here where it is we are meeting. I'm pretty sure Stasia told me but I don't remember where!
