Hello, I read a book back in elementary (25yeads ago) that I just can’t find because I can’t remember the name of it or who wrote it.
I believe it’s based in London around WW1 or WW2. A bomb had gone off killing a family, they find the ghost of a young girl who doesn’t remember anything and they don’t know who she is. There is hideous and evil ghosts that they encounter, a woman who is tall and skinny and wears a snake who is also a ghost around her neck. Her husband is short and fat and has very long nails (might have been his wife with the long nails but I’m pretty positive it was him because that’s what made him scary). I believe they bit the head off of an animal ghost or something at one point.
Toward the end of the book you find out that these evil ghost are actually the young girls parents. They were having a dinner party one night and the young girl was very upset for some reason so she let a bunch of live stock run through the dinner party. The parents were furious and locked her in a tower.
She chose to climb out onto a ledge and I believe she thought she could jump and reach the water but she didn’t. She landed on the rocks and died. Her parents found her and were so riddled with guilt and heart ache that I believe they killed themselves become the grotesque evil ghosts that they were.
Any help in finding this book would be greatly appreciated, I thought it was an amazing book and my little young mind was blown away by the parent twist and the back story to the little girl. Thanks in advance.
