I recently received a copy of the Pilgrim's Progress LEC. As a pleasant surprise, I found an interesting letter inside the book signed by George Macy. It is clear it was mailed alongside a prospectus after reading it. It's an interesting letter. It gives the sense that the recipient had already been sending rather opinionated letters to the LEC given the third paragraph, but who knows? Also, it's always interesting when a letter mentions the war. I'm curious, I haven't seen anything like this online. Were these types of letters commonly sent alongside prospectuses?

Thank you for posting this. I think the third para is just Macy being Macy, it’s very much in style!

>1 HatchedMango: Very neat, I love seeing these. And yes, Macy tended to write like that to his members in his letters; reading others he has the conversational style where he is anticipating a response, haha. Thanks for sharing!

Here's one about the first Heritage Press series. It is addressed to Mr. Walter Kahoe, who was the founder of Antioch Press which became a major printer of bookplates. When I was managing a retail bookstore back in the late '60s & the '70s, we always had a big selection of their bookplates for sale.
The letter indicates that 1500 special copies of each HP title were made and reserved for members of the LEC.

Here's two letters I have from the same time period. Macy definitely liked hyping up the upcoming releases in the third paragraphs. I think many people got letters like these, I doubt someone had to criticize to receive something like this. His style is something that's very much missing from the later eras of the club
Second one is on Nonesuch Press letterhead and mentions the war in England/France. I don't know how this site constantly flips my pictures around but I tried editing these on my computer to be vertical and the site still won't change it

Those are very interesting. I appreciate the additional information from everyone. I recently discovered the Limited Edition Club. It's fun to learn more about it.

Here is another signed letter, not really interesting as is advertising the 8th series, but I do not remember seeing it here:

>11 BuzzBuzzard: An excellent read, as always. In honor of Macy we should all be adding “madazell” to our written vocabularies.

>11 BuzzBuzzard: Amazing! George Macy is a marketing icon for me. He makes things better than they really are.

This is quite the gem of a letter. A bit sad also, I wonder what happened with The Heritage Omnibus, was it ever released?

>15 klamerin: It could have become the Sailor's Reader and the Soldier's Reader, as those are the only comparable titles I can think of.
