Well, not sure what to make of this one. Interrupting the inner story like that does feel rather like a cop-out. I liked the way it was told, though
The exoticism of the inner story is perhaps remarkable given that Muslim-Indian palaces are not that distant from Tagore’s own background among Bengal’s upper classes.

It struck me as a fairly standard "stone tape" type haunting except the ghosts are only seen in the "mind's eyes".
I did like the framing device. Is it all a con, a tall tale from the customs collector? Or did the events somehow propel him to seek the great wisdom and knowledge he now seems to have?
