Linking to List of Links

Sorry, my subject may be cryptic.
What I want to do -- know if it is possible -- is provide a link on my TC homepage to my "Links" page in the backend of my LT account.

"Links" page? Can you share the link to that here? If not, then you likely won't be able to share it elsewhere.

>2 kristilabrie: Not sure if this is what Humane4All is requesting, but if so, I've been wondering...

I would love to see "Lists" (https://www.librarything.com/home#lists) added as an option within the customizable detail page sections in TinyCat admin. To a certain extent, I have used tags and collection grouping to do something similar, but I feel like I'm reinventing the wheel since others have already created the lists that many of my books belong in. (By the way, what exactly *is* happening when I click on the "Add To Your List" button on the LT link mentioned above? This information does not seem to be transferred to the individual record for the books I have. Where is the information stored? And can it be retrieved somehow through a search of my library?)

On a related note, is it possible to limit or customize the awards which display on the detail page in LibraryCat? Perhaps through something I might do in my LibraryThing account settings?

Thanks for your help and insight!

>3 TendingEmbers: Hi there! Thanks for sharing this idea!

Lists are pretty internal to LibraryThing, generally speaking. If you were interested in sharing a dynamic list that patrons could interact with, it would definitely be best to do what you're already doing (organizing and sharing the lists through tags and collections on TinyCat) than to redirect your patrons out of TinyCat to a list in LibraryThing.

If you do want to create a link to a LibraryThing list on an item record, you should be able to do so in the item's Comments field. You can rename that in TinyCat (default name is "Local Notes") to something like "Lists." With or without a link, that could be an option for neatly highlighting specific Lists that items are on; although it would all have to be entered manually.

To the best of my understanding, List data is stored on the Lists page. On your items' pages, you'll see a section for Lists but those are more like all the lists that anyone has ever put the work in. When you click Add to Your List, it puts that work on the page for that List. If you're adding it to a public List, you'll see the work added both to the main public List and to a sublist of all the works you've entered to that List. But all of this is on the List page, again, and what shows on item pages is all the Lists the work is on.

Regarding customizing the number of awards on Detail pages, unfortunately it's not possible. All fields are an all or nothing thing: you either show them or hide them, completely. Awards in LibraryThing are shared across a work, as they're universal facts about the work rather than personal, custom item data.

I hope this helps answer some questions, though it sounds like you're already doing everything the best way! Please don't hesitate to reach out with further questions and ideas.

Thank you,
Zeph

>4 ZephCraven: Thank you for your thoughtful response, Zeph. Maybe one day the Lists info can be incorporated into item pages. Presently, I cannot see much personal benefit for bringing attention to the fact that my collection includes works on any given list. However, if there were an option to display those works I *don't* have in the list, I could see myself being more motivated to do so--say, for example, in order to set up a purchase/wish list.

In the meantime, I do like the idea of highlighting relevant lists within the comment field and will experiment with that.
