Any thoughts on the opening historical section? Did this do a good job of setting the scene for the book? Did it make you want to read on?

I have to say I wasn't drawn in by the section after Attila's death. I'm not a fan of "end of the world" religious scenarios. I do like the Sigma characters so I knew I had to just push through and wait for things to make more sense.

I thought the brief historical and scientific sections at the beginning were a good set up for the book. However it took me 4 attempts to get through chapter 1. I kept falling asleep! Confusing and a snoozefest.

As always with these books bringing in Attila the Hun made you want to find out more about him and especially about his death. He’s a character we know about in history but truth be told not that much about him. As always an end of world scenario is intriguing, but these days end of world scenarios seem ten a Penny.

Historical section made me turn straight to Google! ☺️
As usual, with Rollins’s openers, this was the story I’d have liked to read, never mind the modern-day one…

>5 Sergeirocks: What did we do before Google, I’ve used it a fair bit too. Agree about wanting to read the historical story.

I honestly can't say I was a fan of it. I have to agree with >2 Olivermagnus:. Actually, I haven't been much of fan of the rest of the chapters. However, I am a big fan of the folks here and will happily continue on with all of you. I don't know about anyone else but I'm not sure I could even tell you what I have read in the first 5 chapters expect that we need to read fast because evidently the world is going to end in four days!!!

Yes I was intrigued to carry on with my reading in order to find out more about Attila the Hun.

To be honest I kept reading only to move forward in the plot.

I belong to the wanting to get on with the plot side of this discussion. I was intrigued by the book bound in human skin however; very gruesome.

Late to the party. but to answer the question: No. It's probably the one issue I have with Rollins books. I understand why he includes it but for me the opening historical episode does nothing for me, and the book without wouldn't be lacking. To me it's the sort of thing you can mention during the narrative of the book.
