East of Eden.
John Steinbeck.
Because it's one of the only books I didn't want to end (and it's 601 pages!).
And because the characters and storyline were so well-written, I felt as if I became a part of it.
Wow, it's an amazing novel.
:)
(And I'm a huge dork, but that's why you love me.)

I'm gonna have to get back to you on the favorite book part but I just have to point out how Bree spells Favorite! It's not that often I get to correct her spelling . . .

Dangerous Angels: The Weetzie Bat Books
by Francessa Lia Block

Okay, it's, like, seven books in one. But it's amazing and it makes me want to write!

i love when books do that!
how they sometimes just make you an author, make you recognize certain things you otherwise might not normally pay attention to...
oh, the joys of reading...
lol.

And maybe this moment
Is where I belong,
With the blood seeping inside of me,
Oblivious to this,
All of this.
And maybe I am nothing more then
Carnage,
Just a pile
Of empty heaps of flesh,
With those absolutely
Hollow and souless
Eyes.
And though I am nothing more then
Carnage,
Stuck in this moment,
I breathe in,
Exactly like I feel,
Because in this moment,
I am real.
Finally,
Real.

WordNet: actualization

The noun has one meaning:

Meaning #1: making real or giving the appearance of reality.
Synonyms: realization, realisation, actualisation

The Invisible Man by HG Wells
I can't explain why I'm in love with this phenomenal book.
It's just so amazing it's hard to capture it, like lighting in a bottle.

I listened to that book on the way to California (becasue my mom can't read in the car and i can't read while shes listening to a book becasue the 2 stories mesh together and thats not good) but then fell asleep halfway through but what I remember was pretty good I guess.

I lovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelove the
-Catcher and the Rye- because it changed my life.

I had attempted to read it once in high school, but couldn't get into it.

So I put it down (as I do w/ many books). I went about life and eventually graduated high school, only to be given a copy of the book as a graduation present (from my NOW best friend--though we were just friends then).

And I read it. I couldn't put it down.

Here's why: the main character is so well written I feel like any person can identify with him, or they can relate him to someone they know.

It was, and will forever be my favorite book.

it makes me happy that you write poetry bree.

i write poetry too.

i think for people who are going into newspaper, it is important to remember that writing is an art. often times, with deadlines and what not, we loose site that we LOVE to write, and that's why we do what we do.

I recently just read Cather and the Rye. (I think it was around January??)

I had been meaning to read it for a few years now, but I was definately glad that I didn't attempt it until now. (Maybe this has do with entering high school???) It's not that I couldn't identify what was going on and the emotions occuring with Holden Caulfield, it was that the book just would not have registered as anything to me.

Secondly, the book let me down. Yes, I know, there are many people who will kill me for saying this. But in all honesty, I was slightly disappointed by the book. Yes, I will admit, it definately was good, and it did hit home, but it wasn't what I expected. Maybe it's because I had heard so much about it and I just expected this all-around amazing book that would awaken some deep emotion within me. Let's just say, it failed to do that for me.

Maybe I just set my standards too high?

I definately agree with the last thing you said. With the hectic nature of Journalisim, you definately have to do some writing for fun, or else it's just work like anything else.

But which did you start first. Writing poetry? Or Journalistically?

For me, I had been writing poetry and short stories FOREVER. I can't really think of a time in my life where I was not writing in some form. But in the past two years, I've taken a great interest in Journalistic writing.
It's almost like it's easier to do....

Who knows?
