Another roundabout book has arrive but it's one I've read already. I really loved it, so I may do a reread before moving it along.
Now that voting is over for the Aurora and Hugo awards and I can put the nominees aside, I can get back to getting books off my shelves in October!

October is shaping up to be a busy month for me starting with the provincial election on the 3rd. I'm working as a voting officer all day so I know I won't get any reading done that day for sure. So I'm going to try for only 2 books this month.

>3 gypsysmom: - that sounds really interesting, what do you need to do?
I hope to read 5 - I am nearly finished one, so that makes me feel ambitious!

>3 gypsysmom: I'm quite late in replying to this message, but I hope election day went smoothly for you. I don't want to risk antagonizing anyone with my political opinions, but I will say that I was very pleased to see Wab Kinew elected! I'd even read one of his books, Walking in Two Worlds, recently.

As for myself, I did manage to pass along my roundabout book and also finish another off my shelves, Mulengro by Charles de Lint.
However, I'm torn about whether I should register and release it, as I'd planned. De Lint is one of my favourite authors. This is a paperback of one of his lesser-known works and it's signed by the author! Unfortunately, the inscription says, "To Daphne", and Daphne is not my name! I'm still somewhat reluctant to give away a book with De Lint's signature, though.

>5 mathgirl40: It was the first time Manitoba used electronic voting machines for the provinical election and there were a few glitches especially after voting closed and Elections Manitoba had issues with sending results to the media. For myself, there weren't really many problems but I hope they change the process for registering changes for people which we had to do while others who had no changes to process were waiting. In the city elections, which I've worked several times, there is a separate officer who makes those changes and so the people who are just voting go right up to the voting officer.
As for Wab Kinew's election, it is early days yet but I've long been a fan of his writing. His children's book Go Show the World was written while he was an MLA and taking his master's at the U of W. His memoir, The Reason You Walk, is sensitive and illuminating and heartfelt. He's been forthright about the problems he faced as a young adult which sort of took the wind out of the sails of his opponents when they tried to use it in the election campaign. He's worked really hard to get to this point so I think he will continue to put in lots of effort.

Well, I only got one read instead of the two I planned for. I screwed up suspending my library holds and got at least 8 at one time. Some of them couldn't be renewed so I spent the rest of the month reading library books. Most of them were really great so I don't regret it but I'm sorry I didn't get at least one more read.

>8 gypsysmom: Wab Kinew does seem to have faced and conquered many challenges. I'm eager to see how things go for him and Manitoba in the coming years. I do hope he'll still find time to write!
