Borrow from library? Buy or rent from commercial libraries like Audible? Use “Talking Books”?

I've always gotten CDs or MP3 playaways from the public library. Audible is owned by Amazon and is a virtual monopoly, so any books that are on Audible are exclusive to Audible and you can't get them anywhere else - even the library. Unfortunately, because Amazon has such market power, many new books that I would like to listen to, I cannot listen to without getting it from Audible.

Libby/Overdrive through the library
Hoopla Digital, also through the library

Just now starting to try Palace Project through my library.

I have a few from Audible, but not a lot.

An old topic, I know, but no one’s mentioned Libro.fm, so I thought I’d mention it as an audiobook source. It works similarly to Audible, in that you can buy credits on a monthly subscription (and unlike Audible, credits never expire), plus they partner with independent bookstores. Your selected bookstore gets a portion of the proceeds from your purchases.

I also borrow audiobooks (and ebooks) from Libby and hoopla.
